Wanted: My Dream Dedi
Alright lads, let's do this.
So, as the no-price limit dedi thread really hasn't done the business for me, I thought I'd start my own, catering to my heavily storage-specific needs.
Like most of us, I've picked up great deals here and there, gradually seeing my spending increase to levels that I never really intended. It feels like it's time to stop going after lots of little low-end deals and instead consolidate into something bigger and less 'LE*'.
So, what am I after? I am after all, a very specific person with very specific needs. Well, children, let me describe the wonders I seek.....
- CPU: I need a CPU with a passmark of comfortably more than 10k. The moar, the bettar.
- RAM: 16GB is all I'd need. 32GB would be nice, but I wouldn't want to pay extra for it.
- HDD 1: This is for the OS disk, and will get a bit of hammer, so I want either an enterprise-grade HDD or SSD. Size does not matter.
- HDD 2- HDD X: I want as much storage as possible from the other disks in the server; these disks will be infrequently written to, so desktop-grade disks are fine. I would like 9TB or more storage, I don't care what combination of disks are involved.
- Bandwidth: Typically my day-today requirements will be less than 70Mb, but on occasion I will need upto 250Mb for a few hours. Bandwidth usage will be infrequent other than the initial setup of the server, when usage may be constant for a few days.
- HDD age: I would greatly prefer disks that are less than two years old. Not a must have, but if you can't guarantee disk age, please say.
- RAID: Don't need it, hard or soft.
- Data transfer: First month, I'll need around 9TB in; after that 5TB total usage should be plenty.
- Location: First preference is the UK, with a UK based company. After that, Western Europe. East-Coast US or Canada are real outsiders, but would consider them. Ideally looking to keep latency sub-100ms to my UK VPN endpoints.
- Budget: I'm looking for something in the £80-£100 (inc VAT) range. As this is a server to personal use, I'm unwilling to make more than a month-to-month commitment. I don't intend to cancel after a month, but if you're going to be out of pocket if I do, please charge an appropriate setup fee.
- Special requirements: I would like the option of being able to purchase a drive and have it shipped to me in the UK, and have a fresh replacement in the server. This isn't a must-have, but please tell me in your offer if you can do this or not.
Only interested in providers in business 2+ years and active on LET 6+ months. If you don't meet that criteria, save your breath.
If you have a great custom offer and you don't want to be hammered with requests for it, PM me with the spec.
So, before anyone suggests Online/OVH? If I'm going to be spending a decent chunk of change, I want to work with a provider who'll treat me like a person and not just a number. Also, it doesn't appears that either provider has something that meets my specific needs.
Before anyone suggests Hetzner; they have one super storage dedi in my price range (about £78 inc VAT), but the CPU does not meet my needs. It is currently my fall-back option.
And before anyone suggests a big VPS and some cloud storage, fuck off. I fucking want a fucking dedi. You fucking fuck.

Why not @Clouvider?
You show me where they offer this config at this price.
Clouvider are great I'm sure, but they're more premium that I need.
I see @cociu and a long fsck in your future.
I don't think what I've asked is unreasonable, so I'm assuming you're just a pointless cunt.
Is a "Bondwidth" a sort of bondage ?
Nah blud, no storages plans or other jazz. Dedis only.
Apologies, that should have been 'Bondwich', which is a kind of bondage sandwich.
If you truly did not, you wouldn't have responded.
I'm pretty sure that @cociu can arrage you one dedi with dual Xeon + lots of HDDs fro 100gbp.
I'm sure we can work something out for our dear @Nekki .
Keep going nob-chops, your complete lack of banter is entertaining me this evening.
Hm.
Poor. Can't even manage a different animated gif. You have disappointed me tremendously.
I like semi's I find them less threatening whilst still being useful.
I'm not dead set on spending £100, I'd rather not if I can avoid it, but that's the budget.
Contabo can do this for 106€ with 79€ setup fee. https://contabo.de/?show=konfigurator&server_id=247

That's with the Gbit port upgrade and the additional 2TB and 6TB disks? Not a bad option, thanks for the suggestion.
They are 2000GB and 6000GB respectively!
Wat.
+1 for @Clouvider
They are awesome.
Another +1 for @Clouvider :-)
As the above if Clouvider can sort something out that can fit close to the requirements he won't let you down support and performance wise.
Try worldstream. Their e3 1270v6 is at 11.5k passmark:
(excl tax, but at 12TB storage)
Last I asked, support told me they would put drives I sent them into the server. I guess they're quite flexible on your "send me a drive" thingy then too.
Have I got my date counting wrong and we aren't in the year 2017 but rather in 1977 or what?
What's so difficult or expensive that - so it seems - it's difficult to find a provider willing to smack a couple of disk drives into a box? I mean what @Nekki is looking for isn't somehow weird or complicated; it's just a quite normal box with more disk space than usual. And the "more" in that isn't somehow prohibitively huge. We're talking 2 or 3 4-6TB disks, done, problem solved. I mean, I have seen people with that kind of cap. in their plastic home nas boxen.
Kudos to @Clouvider who declared some good will and being ready to do it.
@Nekki If Clouvider can (is willing to) give you what you need within the price bracket you mentioned, go with it. You'll get good quality and support on top of it.
@all other providers 500km around London: shame on you. Nekki has a reasonable price bracket and a demand that in no way is weird; just some extra disks - and yet, you seem to have either a problem or no interest.
@bsdguy
Just a question, why did you tag @all?Never mind, I get I nowIf you don't mind Canada, I can provide 10 TB of storage, dedicated server. However this will come with a setup fee (base installation fee), $150/mo
The catch: 18 days notice if you want to cancel, setup fee includes costs to own the drives, if you want to cancel you keep the drives
FWIW, I have two great offers via PM in addition to @Clouvider's.
That's actually an interesting model.
What's the month-to-month price?
