What is required to run ipset inside OpenVZ VPS with CentOS?

I found:

"Virtuozzo 7 with kernel 3.10.0-327.10.1.vz7.12.8 or later has support for ipset in Containers."

The lowest kernel required on host node is 3.10.0 and it is "vzkernel" or default CentOS kernel?

Is there any list showing which CentOS versions has which kernel?

  • The "vzkernel" is required as it is the Linux kernel with patches from the OpenVZ developers.

    The default CentOS kernel does not have the necessary patches.

    Wikipedia has a nice list of CentOS versions and their respective kernel versions (amongst some other details) here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centos#CentOS_releases

    However, since the report says "Virtuozzo 7" that generally means RHEL/CentOS 7 (host).

    If you're asking which CentOS version has which kernel version for the purposes of identifying if you have support for the ipset feature, you can use `uname -r' in your container as the container and the host node share the same kernel in OpenVZ.

    Won't happen until virtuozzo 7 and even then don't count on it, just use KVM or Xen or VMware if you 'need' it
