What is required to run ipset inside OpenVZ VPS with CentOS?

I found:

"Virtuozzo 7 with kernel 3.10.0-327.10.1.vz7.12.8 or later has support for ipset in Containers."

Source: https://bugs.openvz.org/browse/OVZ-5736

The lowest kernel required on host node is 3.10.0 and it is "vzkernel" or default CentOS kernel?

Is there any list showing which CentOS versions has which kernel?

Comments

  • The "vzkernel" is required as it is the Linux kernel with patches from the OpenVZ developers.

The default CentOS kernel does not have the necessary patches.

Wikipedia has a nice list of CentOS versions and their respective kernel versions (amongst some other details) here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centos#CentOS_releases

However, since the report says "Virtuozzo 7" that generally means RHEL/CentOS 7 (host).

If you're asking which CentOS version has which kernel version for the purposes of identifying if you have support for the ipset feature, you can use `uname -r' in your container as the container and the host node share the same kernel in OpenVZ.

Won't happen until virtuozzo 7 and even then don't count on it, just use KVM or Xen or VMware if you 'need' it
