I don't blame you, London's fucking horrible.
We just brought a guy over from Brazil, and he lived in London for 2 weeks before moving up to Sheffield where he's going to be based permanently. After initially being a bit apprehensive, he absolutely loves Sheffield. Everyone's so much friendlier, the pubs and restaurants are so much cheaper, and there are (apparently) lots more people on Tinder...
Sent a PM
It's the Grindr item, isn't it...
Actually, I didn't get "desperation" from Miguel's profile as much as "young".
@MrGeneral, my advice is to rewrite your profile so that it sounds more like you're an accomplished professional who's moving from one gig to the next. Saying you learned cpanel when you were 14 or what OS you installed when you were a kid sounds very amateurish (no offense, just trying to help). The intro paragraph should answer the question "how do I fit into IT organizations" or "I am this kind of worker for this kind of job" or "my career focus is X".
Usual advice for job history is the classic "action" formula: "there was this problem, I did this awesome thing, then this fantastic result happened because of it". "Supported managed/VPS customers" is so vague I don't even know what that means...you reset passwords and told them how to pick a Wordpress theme, or you compiled PHP modules for them and wrote firewall rules? Etc.
It never hurts to invest an hour or two looking at LinkedIn to find some great profiles, then copy the style.
That said, I'm not sure if Linkedin is going to be what gets you a job, but it's handy to have as a "business card" in the sense that it can be on your resume and you can point prospective employers at it.
Just advice.
Not at all! But I understand what you mean. Thing is, I started selling webhosting accounts back in 2013 / 2014, seriously, hehe. It allowed me to buy what I needed. Teenager stuff. I'll redact that, and I appreciate your input!
The last part of your comment is hilarious :P.
As for UK, well, I do have family and friends in London. They love it, but the weather would kill me hehehe. It's also expensive. Travelling to London is ok if, for example, a DC hires me to setup a few racks. That'd be OK.
LinkedIn is just an online presence. I don't value it that much, though. Your recommendations make sense and it seems I need to write my profile from scratch.
I'll certainly do that in the coming days.
My birthday will be in the 11th September. Let's hope I get a good present/surprise hehe.
I must thank you for the PM's I've been receiving. I appreciate a lot.
We might act like assholes to each other sometimes, but we're also pretty supportive when it's needed.
Seconded, even though I love real London for my servers I'd hate it to live in. It's expensive and shit, I much prefer the shitty London suburb I live in, bigger houses, less amount of annoying people and tourists, and still travel-able.
Most jobs are 24/7 rotas for DC techs, and not super high paid either. I don't think you'd get a job where you setup a few racks, chill and go and get paid as a freelance. Just being real.
Shhh. Don't ruin it.
Yeah, I prefer being out in the suburbs, although if I could afford it (never going to happen) I'd live in Canary Wharf in a heart beat. There's literally no cunt there at the weekends, it's brilliant.
BTW, I'm amazed that a simple "dude, you wanna hookup" profile site like grindr requires 700 servers to run.
Seven freakin' hundred.
Either
Teenager stuff = porn?
From just looking at your LinkedIn quickly you should probably target yourself as a "problem solver" as you've spent a very short amount of time at multiple companies.
To be fair they are AWS. 700 could just be their max scale up and they could normally sit around 1/4 of that.

Desperation may have been a little harsh, I meant your profile is a little in your face - over the top on justifying your experience.
Others have echoed in this thread already but tinkering for 7 years and 6 years in an enterprise environment is a lot different than someone with 13. All I care about (as someone who regularly hires) What have you done in the real world.
The money is in becoming a SME - specialise in something. The more specialist you are the more you get paid. Simple rack and stack jobs are typically not the best paid, choose one area and grow this.
Has to be a Java app
There's many companies that look for techs to setup their racks, sometimes they're not even in those locations.
I have a client that might need me to do that, since they're not even from EU.
Hehee, they have a lot of stuff there, which I obviously can't disclose. Their team is excellent and it was an exellent job.
No, not at all. Food, cookies, and such :P
I've done a lot of AD-HOC / one-time jobs.
I worked for Tapatalk for 5 years, though.
Understood, and thank you for your opinion. I'll definitely work in my LinkedIn profile in the next few days.
Thank you all folks
Yeah, and there is no problem with that. Just looking at it though it looks like you held actual positions rather than completing a contract then left 3 months later.
I wish you the best of luck finding a position
Here in indonesia, economy is slow too, its like everyone is compete in everything. hope this going well someday.
Correct, and agreed!
Thank you very much, will do my best.
Starting a company has never been easy!
jesus christ miguel everytime i come to let its something new with you
Good luck @MrGeneral
Good guy to work with^^
You could also do some Freelance work here: https://www.upwork.com/ (I also once got a job there).
or just write some cool scripts and sell them over at https://codecanyon.net/ .
Cheers mate!
There's always news in my life. It's always exciting.
Thank you mate! Got a few pms here and in LinkedIn, will go from there.
Thank you for your help / suggestions, folks.
How much money you charge for making a WHMCS theme and Module for Blesta?
That's not going to put food on the table is it..
@MrGeneral why not go further with your car wrapping company? That's a booming biz.. or even expand into window tinting (cost £200) on my F355.
Needs to be discussed. We have 3 programmers in Ad-hoc, only hired for specific projects.
We do car wrapping but there aren't many clients yet. We're a new company. We have recently begun shipping business cards and such in the EU. It takes time to grow a business and I need to invest thousands more. Then I'll go ahead with advertising it further. Windows tint is not possible for now. In Portugal you need a certification and the materials need to be certified as well. It's quite expensive.
Can you explain why nobody has retained you as a permanent employee ?
