By which you perfer they censoring you anytime. Big bro is watching you, welcome 1984.
Btw, it is not acceptable for any provider to provide service for someone who "can hide his /her identity if he/she is smart enough". If you are smart enough then you are doing some wrong, just as much as they violate your privacy.
They do this?
they did, probably not any more.
What do you think about their $49 dedicated servers? I'm thinking on buying one to install cPanel/WHM.
What proof do you have they access data?
Buy a dedicated server or a KVM based VPS if you have such privacy concerns.
I am quite certain that LowEnd hosts may access your openvz based container if you hog resources or give them any other reason to investigate your VM out of hundreds on some random node.
Besides, I'd be fine with it as I would never host anything of sensitive nature on a LowEnd OpenVZ container. Ever.
ordered one two days ago (the 2x1TB HDD version), actually their WHT15 coupon worked for me, bringing the price even down to ~$103 quarterly.
server had been setup after some hours, but showed pending for around 24 hours. login credentials were sent after that time period, but I could access ipmi long before that (info was available in billing panel even before changing to active state) - so I am a bit curious why they were holding back that mail ...
If I would have to make a wild guess, I'd say this is not a coincidence, as their terms allow refunds only within 24h after initial order ;-) same rules shall apply to asking for IP change if those you get are not clean...
anyways. IPs are ok, not on any large blocklists etc. you get a full /28 included, but you lose one per gateway, broadcast, network and ipmi which leaves 12 usable adresses.
I haven't tried if broadcast and network IPs are really needed probably one could make use of those too...
rDNS for every IP can be set via control panel (after service is active)
server itself should be decent, performance seems to be as expected. yet default setup was raid0 so I had to do a reinstall to change to raid1. ipmi helps with that but isn't the fastest after all ^^
did a quick serverbench for you (load has been high because there was raid resync running in the background):
didn't run unixbench or geekbench yet, may do that later to complete the results ;-)
@Falzo thanks for the info...
Can I have the network bench script that you ran above ? looks quite comprehensive
Bump. +1
Dumb question: Soft Raid?
credits to @K4Y5 who did this script, get it here: https://k4y5.github.io/ServerBench/
far from being a dumb question, as I didn't mentioned it any further ;-)
so yes, software raid, I mounted the regular debian jessie netinst iso via ipmi and installed from there adjusting soft raid and partition layout to my needs ;-)
AFAIR you can ask @virmach to do a custom partitioning for you on the order form, but that may cost a reasonable $20 setup fee.
PS: did a quick geekbench for those interested in - http://browser.primatelabs.com/geekbench3/7930930
For the price, it was what I expected. Thank you @Falzo.
Thanks, ordered one with the WHT15 coupon which is still working. Hopes to get a v3 as well, as they are listed as v2 on their website :P
Strangely, these cheap E3s remind me of Hostingbox, hopes this will not ends like this too.

@virmach also sells out of colocrossing so it's not a big surprise that those offers are comparable ;-) yet they are in the market for quite some time, so I also do hope they have a plan to work sustainable in the long run...
performance is very nice. had only a sales ticket in between which got answered in a reasonable timeframe (6 to 10 hours, keep in mind I'm from europe)
FYI when you sign up, you authorize them to take money month after month without you receiving notification that an invoice was generated/due. You'll only receive a "payment made" email then billing folds their arms pointing to AUP/TOS.
Summerhosts wouldn't even do that.
I have been with them for less than one month. I took a vps from them to host 5 statics websites using a kloxo manager.
In 3 weeks, my VPS has been nullrouted 2 times (48hours each time).
First given reason:
There are no issues with the node. I believe you are running out of memory. Please reboot your VPS, and if the issue persists (running out of memory) then you should upgrade to the next package. You are currently using 256MB of 256MB memory (0 KB free)
Soheil G.
I had only 46% memory used ! and others is buffered. i told it to them second reason they gived me:
]We have detected a large volume of email being sent from your IP.... Your machine appears to have been used to send SPAM. We have null routed the source... and blablablablablabla....
Syed A.
Sr. Sys Admin & Support
There are no spam there i m IT manager for more than 10 years, all my maillogs there was clean.... They take me for an idiot !
What I can advise you is to run away. Or take a server somewhere else, if you haven't already done: RUN !.
With that experience, you're using that insecure joke called Kloxo?
I had the same problem with one of my (many VPS's) with them.
I raised a support ticket and requested for information on why this was happening and explained what my VPS does (it does send email, but no where near what was described to me as 16000pps - whatever that means for SMTP traffic). That specific VPS typically sends out 10-20 emails a day.
Syed escalated this with the DC and clarified (and pursued things, on my request) and subsequently the DC "changed the limits". I've had no issues thereafter (knock wood) and things are running fine so far.
Initially I was also very irritated and concerned (about my other VPSs as well) on this. This is something that is not explicitly mentioned anywhere and there's absolutely no clarity on the details of what the rule that triggers the null route is (and I still have no idea on what exactly triggers this null route).
However, I must say that at the end, the manner in which the support issue was handled was very courteous, professional and I was satisfied with @VirMach/Syed/Team.
I suggest you reach out to them and explain what your VPS does and confirm with your logs that there's no funny business. I'm sure they'll be reasonable and will help you out in terms of fixing things for the longer term as well.
WARNING - ranting ahead!!!
Again - I am not in any way defending this unknown and unstated policy but as long as there's fair (sustainable/long term) recourse, I'm satisfied.
I've also seen other hosts where there's a mysterious process that kills some VPS process (like dd) - this unstated daemon (with who knows what regex to kill) is something akin to this null route (while the null route is typically a DC thing, the killer-daemon is a VPS Host node thing totally under the control of the Host Node owner). There too, after you get hit by the kill, you reach out via support to get clarity - I would much prefer to know in advance that such a daemon exists and is used and here's what it'll kill. I think at times it can also be the deciding factor in going with a provider or not.
As an aside, has any one else been affected by these kinds of issues and how have you dealt with it long term?
Also, it'll be great to get the provider's perspective on some of these things. While I understand that this is to keep abusive processes in check (etc.), not stating clearly what these policies are is very difficult for the customer to cope with (and makes the experience unpleasant). Many providers (VirMach included) on the one hand do clearly state what their CPU usage policies are (like no more than 50% burst over 5 minutes or something else over 1 hour etc.) but this null routing and process killing seems to be some sort of a grey area.
bugger..old thread!
I did experience this when trying to install letsencrypt on both my vps one in phoenix one in chicago. Setup goes to pip and gets killed. It did same with Ajenti.. pip gets killed.
My servers are hosted at voxility and ovh ... when the activity is lucratif...
When it's not lucratif I use this kind of hoster... and i use Kloxo because it's a free open source.... It will not be secured alone if you don't do it... and yes it's better that a lot of other ones... it respect all email best-practices like spf dkim dmarc... and you can choose the anti-spam you wan't bogofilter,spamasassin..., you have many choices under it... all what you have to do is to configure it correctly.
and solution can't be secured alone samething for paid professional solution like Cpanel, and others... and with my modest 10 years experiences i can confirm that yes some free open source solution are more secured than paid ones... Community is more actif than firms salary. we can discuss this in appropriate topic...
Now the problem is that hoster, who null route a sleeping VPS Server:
and this is the proof :
It's for that i m putting my review there...
Post has less than 6 month... and It's not as old as this hoster exist.... I will warn the rest of users of kind of problems they can encounter with virmach. it's a review post... thank you for your interesting intervention... are you working with them ? if yes, please told them that their services are non-professional .
Wow- OLD thread!
I had a staff member once give me a browbeating for "using too many resources" in my pack-o-loss-leaders at the time. I replied that apt-get would likely be done in moments, but it is fairly common to use more resources during an initial install/configuration. That is the first, and last time I had any issue. I had someone else give me hell for running a benchmark test for LET, but I can't remember who that was.
Remove the stat domain when you will generate the lets encrypt certificate under kloxo... and it will work
Process get killed because stat domain is a redirection... just remove it... it worked for me with all my domains...
Waw cool ! XD 1775 comments under 17 discusion and only 780 thanks i like your avatar. i will add 781 thanks just for this
