I should add, these are running cpanel DNSONLY, so the RAM usage will be lower by at least 100MB.

I believe you get the lowest overall RAM usage while using BIND with Debian5 then probably Centos5.
Also cPanel DNSONLY with named running about a week

Not using cPanel -- just BIND9 on Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit.
Debian 6 / VMware 128MB
Bind 9.8 starts using ~70MB but after a while 200MB and counting ...
