Looking to find out how small you have managed to get your server (Debian or Ubuntu) and Bind9 down to?
If you could share your ram usage and how many records you have on there would be great.
Ram Usage on Bind9 DNS (No Panel)
DNS 2 Records 36 Records
dns.au 43mb 49mb OpenVZ
dns.eu 33mb 40mb VServer
dns.uk 24mb 26mb XenPV
dns.us 20mb 22mb OpenVZ (Master)

RAM usage:
And record count:
I should add, these are running cpanel DNSONLY, so the RAM usage will be lower by at least 100MB.

I believe you get the lowest overall RAM usage while using BIND with Debian5 then probably Centos5.
Also cPanel DNSONLY with named running about a week
Also cPanel DNSONLY for us:
total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 512 112 399 0 0 0 -/+ buffers/cache: 112 399 Swap: 0 0 0
[email protected] [~]# ls -alh /var/named/*.db | wc -l 733
another cpanel dnsonly
Hi Guys,
Thanks for the info, appreciated!
Not using cPanel -- just BIND9 on Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit.
Debian 6 / VMware 128MB
Bind 9.8 starts using ~70MB but after a while 200MB and counting ...
Well some interesting info so far...
