  • @netomx isn't that the DC 10 of the nodes for CVPS went poof ?

  • @kbeezie

Chris is a great VPS provider. But being completely honest when I got that email I basically sh** my pants, backed up my data, and moved.

The fear of going back will always be there.

  • @LAKid @Cirium And course some are capitalizing on this clusterfuck, such as this Dallas location host doing $7 for 2GB OVz : http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/5904/catalyst-host-2gb-ovz-for-7-and-new-dallas-location-time-to-move-from-chicago

    They suck though.

  • @jarland ... yea... they're sucking the business out of the competitors... (... ok that was a bad pun).

  • @jarland Yes, but you guys have servers in Lenoir, NC - Denver, CO and Dallas, TX, right?

I don't like to talk about it.

Too bad he has 10 plans?

Also, we have great services, which cant be matched for the price. We had a bad week yes, but doesnt mean that overnight we became terrible.

For close to 3 years we were incident free, with a clean track record. I do not see one incident as a reason to jump ship. If anything it has made us better.

As for LA1, I just dont know, doing migrations now since it can no longer be trusted hardware.

    Chris

  • Here's another $5/month 2GB host in Chicago: http://www.lowendtalk.com/discussion/5824/chicago-only-black-friday-2gb-4.99mo

I have a couple of VPS's with ChicagoVPS (LA, Buffalo), and a couple more with UGVPS (Chicago), and one with Catalysthost (Dallas). I have to say that the Buffalo node I'm on is a lot more reliable than the LA node.

  • @CVPS_Chris said: doing migrations now

Staying within Best Coast or to Chicago/Buffalo?

@jarland said: I don't like to talk about it.

I will never understand your shame with Denver.

  • @CVPS_Chris ?Just a week?

Yeah just a week, other than that flawless.

Staying in LA, we have 5 other nodes there to move to.

    Awesome. Sounds good to me.

Hell, if I were you I would just get Showtime and watch some Dexter, maybe some Nikita / Fringe / Person of Interest / CSI Las Vegas / little bit of NCIS - and ignore all of this. You're better than that :D

  • +1 for person of interest.

    @marcm said: Person of Interest

    @marcm said: NCIS

WELL SAID, WELL SAID. Two of my favorite shows.

  • ... haven't seen Person of Interest yet.

  • It's actually fairly entertaining :)

How does getting hacked and ddos'd, both likely because of your attitude, and then have recurring hardware issues and horrible node instability (LA) make you any better?

Also, any word on the hacking, i.e. what happened, why it happened, what was affected? Who this mysterious other provider you said was affected?

  • Somebody asked me why I stuck with @CVPS_Chris? Because #1. I need LA server, #2. he's not lying or anything as far as LA node goes, and #3. am not doing anything, just watching to see if I could do anything, but there is a limit though...
Wow, so many providers sent me PM for their services, free service, lowered price, etc.,
but I'm committed for one month for $5, want to see if it goes puff or....

@marcm said: @nunim and @LAKid - maybe you guys are being to hard on @CVPS_Chris - he is doing what he can to make the best out of a bad situation.

I'm simply asking for a clarification of his statement that all of this makes him stronger and if he will ever publish any details of how he was "hacked".

@marcm what did I say that gives you an idea for "harm" stuff to chris?

@kbeezie neither of my 3 vps there were affectef

I think everyone confuses, or thinks, the compromise was all our nodes. It was only a small percentage. It made us better because I have decided to offer periodic backups for free, even though on our site it says we do not.

I will protect our customers, and I guess it took an incident like this to realize anything can happen no matter how hard you try or how secure anything is.

I think we are taking the step in the right direction and this will soon be forgot and replaced with nothing but a great service everyone will want.

  • @CVPS_Chris is it true that you put ~110 2GB accounts on most of the 32GB nodes? (that seemed to be the speculation in the other thread as to why the eventual issue).

  • @CVPS_Chris LA1 node is getting any better soon, or you advise staying on your chicago nodes. I made a move recently from chicago->LA and my decision is hitting on my face everyday. :|

No, the number on VPS's on a node depend on the plans.

For example, some nodes could have 100 128mb plans and few 2GB's and vice versa it really depends.

At the end of the day, we make sure nothing is overloaded as we have alarms set on everything. If it goes off we resolve it.

  • @CVPS_Chris makes sense. (I mean a box with 100+ with all set at 2GB wouldn't stay up in reality, but balanced with mostly small sizes well under the threshold would).

  • Not to point out the obvious, but maybe customers effected by the issues on CVPS LA1 should ask to be migrated to other LA nodes?
