In that case the capability sys_time has been enabled for your containers.
btw, why obosolete rdate instead of ntp?
Timezone will work though, the symlink solutions above also works, afaik.
(and sorry for taking stuff OOT)

Sigh.
I was not attempting to SET the system time. I was showing the CORRECT CURRENT TIME, retrieved by rdate, compared to the INCORRECT TIME on my VPS. Both times are displayed in the SAME TIMEZONE.
The DIFFERENCE is 5 hours, X minutes and probably Y seconds.
It has NOTHING TO DO with rdate vs ntp, setting the timezone, creating symlinks or anything else. Yes it's OpenVZ and I know I can't set it. That's the providers job. OK?
Why not? Already got one on Chicago, I want another location
LA is offline again, this is so frustrating......
Probably too many benchmarks
edit
Back online there @LAKid?
@pubcrawler No it's still down, solus does not even responding anymore, it used be rebooted and up, but this time, Solus is even not helping.
they must've read my ticket, it's online now.
After reboot from solus panel, LA VPS now up again. Down for 2 hours +...
@smile93 I just don't understand why it goes down everyday..
@LAKid, squirrels running the machine probably aren't being fed
@smile93, how long have you been a customer in LA?
@pubcrawler exactly,
@smile93 10days, and 9 days' offline.
Well, I will just shot on sides here - if the node is oversold on RAM and it hits the limit will cause a node crash.
@Alex_LiquidHost once a day? why not twice, or 3, 4times? Just exactly once a day.
I think there is a guy doing crap once a day...:)
@Alex_LiquidHost Not necessarily, it'll start killing processes with OOM errors.
@LAKid I know some folks that'll actually set up a cron job to restart a particular service (such as postfix for example), to prevent the server from crashing due to out of memory errors eventually... but never heard of someone bringing down a node periodically for that purpose.
@CVPS_Chris What do you think?
We are taking the node down, and swapping memory. Just seems we cant catch a break this week.
@CVPS_Chris yup, but after change, it maybe good, no more complaints...
@CVPS_Chris Wow talk about a good run of bad luck!

Shame what a week or two for CVPS.
I am hoping things get salvaged and back in order.
Too much overselling and cannibalizing the market eventually will lead to things like this happening.
It has nothing to do with overselling or lack there of. Just a bad shipment of parts/bad timing.
Got an email from them a while ago:

be implementing a regular backup service for all OpenVZ products. We will start out in Chicago and work to Buffalo, then to LA.

@CVPS_Chris ... would probably sue the distributor or datacenter to have that value of bad parts...
You can't... it's a risk you take ordering from them. They don't test the parts when they send them out. They already make it painless to send products back for replacement and they figure that's enough.
@kbeezie hard to sue the DC when you are partially owned by the owner of the DC
Fixed. VPS is back to its good old self
Thanks @CVPS_Chris
