Intel xeon vs AMD opteron ?

i am currios what is the point of one client when is choose a dedi . So please post what you prefere from this 2 servers :
server 1 ) :
G7 server 2x12 core (AMD-Opteron-6172 total 24 core @ 2.10GHz) 64GB RAM 1 tb sata
server 2 ) G6 server 2x6 core (Intel Xeon X5650 @ 2.67GHz) only 32 gb ram , 1 tb sata
please answer with : server1 or server2

I think the question is whether or not you need that extra RAM. X5650 is a clear winner here.

X5650 wins on performance and the other on RAM - amount.

The opteron uses more W for less power.... not like the choice ain't obvious here?

What price? It can be $300 but the same still doesnt mean I'd actually buy one over the other because its $300 still
i ask only what one client prefere , is not about price here , let see the client is agree with the price (server 1 and server 2 in the same price) but hi need to choose. So in your case what is your prefere ?

How hard is it to accept the fact, that there is no general answer to this question? You either 'NEED' the RAM or pick the faster CPU.

UHHHHHHHHHHHHH is verry dificult with LET somethimes. So i will tell the story ...
i have the posibility (the oportunitty) to buy 100 servers of option 1 in a good price (to have lather the posibility to sell dedis it at LET prices) BUT i dont like AMD ... all what i have for the moment is xeon ... so i am verry undecided .... for this i ask here to see a point of view of customers. But never mind yet ...
If both price are same I would take amd , more ram and cpu core

Thank you for explaining it.
I have no need for that high ram boxes and even with multiple VPS on the Xeon the RAM would be sufficient. I'd prefer the higher clock count and just Intel in general. You can always add some more RAM but changing / improving the CPU...?

I use CPUBoss and similar sites to compare.
I found http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Xeon-X5650-vs-AMD-Opteron-6172 and it looks like the Intel Xeon X5650 wins over the AMD Opteron 6172 in almost all aspects.
It has a nice detailed list of differences.
if both are relatively similar prices, the intel cpu would be preferred. More powerful even with less RAM capacity. Just my humble opinio though, but it would really depend on what it would be used for, that can change the game completely
The Intel X5650s have very good bang for buck among the cheaper Intel chips .
Plus, it's one of the first with AES hardware acceleration support by Intel.
Excellent platform for selling budget VPS too.
Throw in 2x SSD and it's very capable dedi machine.
