Recommend Hosted DNS provider for 2016!
Hello Everyone...
I've gone through some old posts but wanted to take fresh opinion on good hosted DNS solutions and recommendations to this date. Cloudlfare is out of question for its known instability for Asian region & Rage 4 had its own downers, wanna know whats it like now.
Google Cloud DNS & Amazon Route 53 are vouched for... but the billing is little too complicated for me to understand.
PLease shed some light!

What problems did you have with Rage 4?
I have had 0 issues with Cloudflare's DNS in the last 4 years.
Some other parts of their product may have had some issues but their DNS has been rock solid for me
My recollection is that Incapsula offers a free plan that's similar to Cloudflare and includes DNS hosting.
Cloudflare instability in Asia region? Can you elaborate, also if are you referring to them proxying traffic, I believe you can just use their DNS and point directly at your own IPs.
I would challenge the notion of DNS instability anywhere with CloudFlare. I work for a reasonable sized company that uses their DNS for their primary website. I think you should reconsider that exclusion.
CMIIW Incapsula still doesn't offer DNS hosting.
Actually, when I was trying out DO's DNS offering I found it to be a little slow. For a CloudFlare hop that's ~1ms away, responses of ~200ms aren't really that sound.
Hurricane Electric DNS
I agree, I have around 40 or so sites on Cloudflare's free DNS and it's always been really fast and stable for me.
I haved use cloudflare, he, and namecheap free dns, all works fine without any problem. I used Route 53 for sometimes but I don't really want to pay for dns hosting so I'm sticking with cloudflare and he for now.
Just some notes, for whatever they're worth. From the browsing perspective, I've seen sites get slower when they deploy Cloudflare. Perhaps that's location specific - I'm in Western Canada. An example of a failed employment would be TheRegister.co.uk. However, one thing that is always a drag if you expect traffic from privacy buffs, Cloudflare will throw up unsolvable captchas to block them if they're using Tor, which an increasing number of people are these days.
You can adjust "security level" or disable it in cloudflare panel.
Good to know, thanks. But of course the person wanting to access the site can't do that. In any case now I know what to tell ElReg when I write to tell them that I can't link to their articles any more.
I don't use cloudflare to route my traffic through their system. Their dns is good though.
I see theregister turned off routing via cloudflare, but they still use CF for DNS.
You're right though about captchas, google makes them unsolveable surely in a certain %-age. Fuckers.
try https://www.cloudns.net/
also there was a website from a user here which tested DNS servers, anyone remember it?
edit:
found it, is http://www.dnsperf.com/ from @jimaek
Well I know cloudflare is good at DNS, but for my east Asian clients it has been a nightmare whenever I tried to put them behind CF. However, I will give it a try again with all Caching and Security turned off and check if resolution is flawless.
The other Service I'm really inclined towards is Yandex, which offer upto 50 Zones hosting and extend it upto 100 after a support ticket, which should be fine by me.
Another thing I wanted to check was, not being a DNS expert, which services allow Vanity Nameservers so I can point my domains to my ns1/ns2.mehargags.com and then my ns1/ns2.mehargags.com "relay" the call to these actual DNSs. I hope this is called Vanity or is it Child Name Servers ?
Yandex doesn't support Vanity... does CF allow that? or any other provider ?
I really don't mind a small yearly fee... like $30-$50/yr or something... if the service is really pro. All I want is to keep to keep DNS zones off from any of my VPS/Server providers
Vanity nameserver just means you use a custom hostname for the nameserver. The IP address is still shared usually (so rDNS on the nameserver wouldn't match forward DNS), but could be dedicated depending on the provider.
You should be able to relay the call from your server like you described for any DNS provider. But then you might as well host your own DNS. What you really want is no relaying to be involved, just to have custom hostname, possibly with dedicated IP. Rage4 supports setting your own NS records for free, and dedicated IP is 10 EUR/mo.
You can use CloudFlare DNS without using the CDN, just unclick the cloud so that it's grey.
DNS Made Easy
$29.95/year - unbeatable anycast. 5m queries per month and I've never gone near the limit.
http://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/pricing/
I like how it says 0% uptime SLA on http://www.dnsmadeeasy.com/services/ if you have JS disabled :P
No JS? No uptime for you!
Really though, I use the $59.95/year plan and have unbeatable DNS.
I avoided a shitty Christmas by switching out DNS to TTL of 5, and used Google Flush DNS to quickly get sites back up that were previously at Linode.
I don't come near my 10m/month and for $59.95 per year it's "set it and forget it" for 25 domains / 1k records.

cloudflare +1
The DNS records take effect instantly!
dnsmadeeasy.com
I agree with @Kris. DNS Made Easy is an excellent provider. China friendly
+1
DNS.he.net
check their ping worldwide it's fairly low.
+1 for dns.he.net as well
Any Idea on Paid PRO plans from HE.net ? how much they cost ? worth it ?
I need to host around 120-150 Zones right now, now idea of the number of queries per month.
Also is there a "BULK EDITOR" with HE.net where I can put in all my DNS Zones from the previous host ?
+1 for CF and HE.net and NS1
if you have some crazy amount of zones (sites) then providers like dnsmadeeasy,NS1(paid),cloud dns,Rage4,Route53 come it to play
pls consider this list if you pay for DNS hosting

My website has been behind cloudflare with caching & security on, I can access it just fine while I was in China & Vietnam.
I guess most Asian's IP are dirty, that's why Asian people having trouble access websites behind cloudflare.
Personally, I find Google Hosted DNS reliable (100% SLA), but is (unfortunately) expensive (I guess it's what you have to pay for reliability). I'm fine with Rage4 for personal stuff, but when it goes for business, Google would be +1
