So apparently the people behind 'marketing' VENOM are linked to M$. Supposedly it's more about branding negativity towards open source software by M$ and not necessarily a serious bug.

Eh. I'm a bit dubious about that. The article mentions:

[...] It basically took credit for a 2-year-old flaw that a Google engineer had found, publishing (along with a logo and a catchy brand name) dangerous details well before a patch could be made available and widely deployed/applied, i.e. it was an irresponsible disclosure. [...]

... why the ever-living fuck was a bug like that out in the wild for 2 years without being patched, despite knowledge of it?

The irresponsibility here is on the part of whoever is responsible for that hole not getting patched sooner.

    VPS Services emergency maintenance

Due to a serious security flaw found in the virtualization software’s code, we are forced to perform an emergency maintenance on our hypervisors, which includes installing security updates and rebooting the hypervisors, which also includes restarting the VPS servers.
KVM VPS hypervisors will be rebooted on 19.05.2015 at 04.00 GMT +0200. The downtime shouldn’t exceed 30 minutes.

OpenVZ and XEN hypervisors maintenance is more complicated and the VPSs will be rebooted sometime in 19.05.2015 – 22.05.2015 during the night, each VPS will be rebooted once and the downtime shouldn’t exceed 15 minutes.
Please make sure that the VPS servers will be able to start after a graceful boot. If You experience any problems, You can check on and manage Your VPS in our client portal which is located at www.wavecom.ee/clients
Thank you for your understanding in this matter and please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconveniences.

Fucking bullshit, this issue is 5 Days old and they noticed it today.
