Very disappointed to know that the "prlctl backup" command is only available in Virtuozzo, in OpenVZ there is no option to make backups.

We are some days working on a solution to integrate #vz7, and when we have started with the backup implementation we have found this issue.

It's very frustrating to know that OpenVZ have removed the vzdump tool without any other alternative.

How anybody will implement OpenVZ if there is no backup options for the CTs/VMs?

This is the error we get:

    # prlctl backup CT1
    Backing up the CT CT1
Failed to backed up the CT: Unimplemented. This feature is not implemented yet.

In their wiki we see that their will no provide: https://wiki.openvz.org/Comparison

    Very disappointing.

    You use standard Linux tools.

Rsync? Vzdump? IDK maybe I am just no hip enough.

    Well.

Despite I don't like the idea of Proxmox moved out of VZ to LXC, probably was the right choice, since this new implementation, appears to be like a "rewrite" and not an enhancement to the previous iterations.

    Why?

    Why?

Because you like virtualization, so, vms inside vms, inside vms... (Insert proper image)

And docker it's the new toy, you know. Not always useful, but...

Anyway, if this is a kvm frankenstein, you should be able to use docker without issues.

This is a ballache, not a fan of the change to uuid's as this will require everything changing in all control panels.

There are snapshots though. Not entirely sure what is included. I just made a snapshot of a 9+GB container and the result was 177MB. Clearly not a full backup.

    Checking this: https://openvz.org/Ploop/Backup

But not any info about how to restore.

    Very disappointing.

Vzdump was never official, it was always a proxmox property.

I know, but at least, it run, and is documented in their wiki:
