Rant: OVH Support is USELESS

Then again, what did I expect?
Having major packet loss and you call?
Some guy that doesn't know English tells me my configuration is wrong and I could fix it by reinstalling.
Yeah thanks you I could have figured it out.

  • So why did you called if you could figure it out by yourself?

    ./troll off

OVH support always have been crap. And about 99% of complaints about the network it is the person itself.

Yeah thanks you I could have figured it out.

They are a French/French Canadian company... you said it yourself "what did I expect".

  • If I ever order from them, I feel like it will be useful that I know French.

  • @shovenose said: Some guy that doesn't know English

    OVH is French, fyi

OVH support is a crap big time, but in this case you are the one whos wrong
unless you pay for full management

It`s a Friday and OVH has very oversaturated pipes to the U.S.

So, packet loss would be normal for OVH.

  • Do you think they could sustain services for $39/month and provide an amazing network/support at all times? ... Up your budget!

  • You had to learn the hard way....

  • shovenoseshovenose Member, Host Rep

@chriscm they chose the price at which to operate. They could make it $10/mo and I'd still order it.
Even though now I vow not to provision any more servers at OVH and use WholeSaleInternet/DataShack instead :)

  • @shovenose good choice--I believe in staying away from the bigger guys when I can :) -- Alot of small dedi hosts are offering services now which include very personal support at similar pricing.

  • shovenoseshovenose Member, Host Rep

Well, for an upcoming venture (BetterVPS.com) I'm going to use Hivelocity and (maybe) SingleHop however for more budget stuff WSI/DS are the best IMO.

  • @shovenose - heres a VERY smart idea, use softlayer.

  • shovenoseshovenose Member, Host Rep

@curtisg I'd have no money left.

  • @shovenose thus deadpool.

  • shovenoseshovenose Member, Host Rep

@curtisg I am sure you want that. But I'm not going to give you that satisfaction.

  • they are a french company, trick to deal with them is speak proper french and you get quite decent service.(at least in my experience they were able to look into route for me etc.)

  • @shovenose said: Then again, what did I expect?

If you're experiencing packet loss, it's probably not just you noticing it. Phoning up about it most likely won't help too much.

Yeah thanks you I could have figured it out.

They're a French company and you have unmanaged services, be happy they actually picked up.

Not sure why you're complaining, this seems like a very typical scenario with OVH.

Providing services which include very personal support would be a great way for small VPS hosts to differentiate themselves from the pack.

I have a spare Kimsufi mKS2g laying around and the domains escortvps.com and vpsho.com are available for registration ...maybe I should start a VPS company! Instead of charging by the GB for bandwidth, I'll charge by the hour for services and very, very personal support!

    "Having major packet loss

I'm not experiencing any packet loss between my OVH servers and the US. Maybe your configuration is wrong. :)

96 packets transmitted, 96 received, 0% packet loss, time 95122ms

    rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 109.370/112.257/199.375/9.837 ms

102 packets transmitted, 102 received, 0% packet loss, time 101081ms

    rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 108.685/111.355/129.151/3.081 ms

  • @shovenose

Here's a nice statistic about Beauharnois, Quebec. (Where the OVH DC is located).

94.53% of the population speak French only, don't really expect much

  • well to be fair part of BHS's support team is in Montreal, although it is in Canada and being a bilingual city... you can pretty much talk to everyone in French but many people cannot speak proper English(myself included).

  • shovenoseshovenose Member, Host Rep

I used to get friendly, willing-to-help people when I called OVH once in a while a few months ago. That's why this hit me by such a surprise :)

  • Sorry to take this a bit off-topic however do you know if iWeb is suffering due to such competition moving in? I see OVH has much better pricing which could sway many to switch.

  • OVH.com - never again

    OVH.us - quite alright

  • shovenoseshovenose Member, Host Rep

@Andre it's the same thing. Both take you to http://www.ovh.com/us/index.xml

You can't seriously expect support from OVH for their pricing.

I subscribe to http://status.ovh.net/ just for a laugh when on the shitter

Edit: though, on this topic, I gotta say http://blog.prgmr.com/xenophilia/ is still my #1 favorite to read. Hilarious!

  • All of this is completely impossible. OVH are the best hosting company ever.

  • @Andre said: OVH.us - quite alright

I also have found that the NA branch of OVH are faster on response time. I got an average of 4 min response on tickets for the month I tried them out.

  • Nick_ANick_A Member, Top Host, Host Rep

Do your clients want to be on OVH servers?

  • shovenoseshovenose Member, Host Rep

They reply fast to tickets, just useless responses.

  • @shovenose
OVH.com is their French site, if you don't have a US IP.
