Isn't rackspace in .au now with cloud servers? Not LEB but should be around $40.
http://sishosting.com.au/cheap-vps-hosting.html are good non LEB guys there, but will give you an idea of what pricing is in .AU (shitty)
Note: laugh at the url/seo.
We've been thinking of bring our Minecraft services to Australia, and could possibly offer our 1GB package at $17.49. Not sure if we want to move into Australia just yet however. Do we ever expect prices to become reasonable anytime within the next 5 years?
No, even if NBN gets built, there is no fiber going out. That's the main issue. NBN doesn't solve anything. There isn't enough capacity going out and/or hasn't been cost effective.
There was meant to be a 4th cable built to the USA but it got canned.
@smooch1502 If VPS would suffice Oneprovider may have something matching your specs http://oneprovider.com/onecloud/virtual-private-servers
Not sure if they would allow Minecraft though.
No way for the IPs, space, RAM and bandwidth required.
Australian bandwidth and power is more expensive.
You can't even get a decent VPS with 512MB of RAM for $40.
You're looking at over $150. Maybe even over $200 since it's dedicated.
@Ishaq - not true - we are using ZettaGrid for both our Rage4 DNS PoP's in AU. The 512MB VPS is around 26AUD and they offer 3 main locations (Sydney, Melbourne and Perth). They have very good connectivity in AU (they have own fiber optics between locations).
@gbshouse
Nice. Never heard of them. That's a 512MB VPS though, dedis are much more. However I'm getting about $40 US for 512MB.
@Ishaq - You can play with their pricing here. They also offer colo so maybe it will be cheaper to buy for example Atom box and put it with them. More about their network http://www.zetta.net.au/network/
Looks very fishy, but http://vortex-vps.com/mini-dedis/
IPS Needed: at least 5 usable IPv4
At least intel dual core processor.
at least 100 GB HDD.
Preferably at least 200 GB/Bandwidth a month.. on a 100 Mbps or better port
RAM: 2 or 3GB
Reformats/reloads must be free
http://www.exigent.com.au/hosting/vps-starter-pricing.php has everything for $40AUD/mo but just 1 IP. Extra IPs are $4AUD/mo extra.
@heiska 2039GB Dedicated RAM for only $15? Sign me up!
They are a registered company in Australia, but apparently those are in the USA. These http://vortex-vps.com/linux-vps/xen-vps/ they say are in Australia.
