SSD choice for node

  • +1 for Crucial SSD's

  • Intel 730 is my go to SSD for ANYTHING.

  • We don't do any virt, but we use Crucial M5XX, BXXX, etc . . . SSDs in all of our servers, they've been fantastic. Cheap, reliable and they have capacitors.

  • Be careful for never using any TLC-based SSD on Server, Datacenter on any serious occasion

    Hardware or Software RAID10?

I don't think it matters much anymore with the advances in mdadm having TRIM support

We only run hardware RAID in our nodes. I use FakeRAID (AMD RAID Xpert) at home.

Got two Samsung 850 Pro 250GB and it's just awesome. I'd definitely use those.

  • 850 Pros are really good. They wear very slowly and relocate sectors if they get corrupted, so their storage capacity just slowly decreases.

If you allocate a 90% partition to ZFS, performance will be above excellent.
