Possible flaw in Media Temple's holiday blowout sale

So I just checked Media Temple's website to check for any black Friday sales and I found that they are running a holiday hosting blowout sale. Essentially the sale is three free months of hosting for any of their (dv), (gs), or (ve) servers.

After a little bit of looking around I saw that the deal applies to even their larger 16GB VPS plans. Even more interesting is if you switch to a yearly plan and look back at the pricing you'll see that it's still $0.

So in other words you can get a 16GB VPS from Media Temple for $0 for your first year. Just make sure to cancel before the year is over and you'll be set.

  • Yeah, too bad it requires a credit card =/

  • You surely informed them about this. Didn't you?

  • They're not going to honor $10,000 worth of hosting.

  • @Amitz I sent them a message on Twitter, but I'm still waiting for a reply.

I don't want to accidentally leave a -$10k dent in my credit card.

    Edit: Tried it with invalid card details, surprisingly went through. I hope they don't disable it ;_;

"It's 3 mos free so you're not getting charged today, but you will get charged for the yea after the 3 mos is up. *SC"

  • Yup, took my fake CC details, activated my server.

    :3

  • Wait, fake CC details work?

  • @kamalnasser said: Wait, fake CC details work?

The ones I got from fakenamegenerator.com worked for me.

  • Interesting.. cheers @wdq

Mediatemple are pretty shit though IMO. God damn hosting for hipsters.

Probably just checks that the card using the Luhn algorithm, and in 3 months, they'll sort things out.

  • I'm in for one!

Used a real CC, I'd still try them for 3 months.

So you guys need hosting that you have no intention of paying for in 3 months...why?

  • @jarland said: So you guys need hosting that you have no intention of paying for in 3 months...why?

Why does a bear shit in the woods?

  • They holded on my order ! And I did it with a valid order actually.

  • Shame on you guys.

  • I suppose it's only a matter of time before the "omfg they cancelled my order without notice!" or the "they want $10,000 now!" cries appear.

  • I've used my card (real cc) , gonna try them out. Was anyways looking for a solid node for an upcoming project, if its worth the money will defnitly consider continuing

  • They are asking me a ID proof, did any of u guys were asked same for? ?

Pretty decent network they've got. People take shots at them all the time because of their pricing, but if they can back it with good hardware on a good network, more power to them. Less clients at a higher price gives you more opportunity to build relationships with your clients.

  • How long did activation take? Used a real address & CC and been around an hour.

  • Awesome !! Got one from them, I ll try for one more :)

  • @Kris said: How long did activation take? Used a real address & CC and been around an hour.

It took me eight minutes from signing up till the server got activated.

  • Kris, they sometimes flag users and asking them for IDs, I have sent mine, and asked the live support to provide me, they did it for me. Tell the live support, they ll ask u to verify. So verify yourself for them

  • @Kris

I used my real address/CC and it took within ten minutes. No charges or anything yet. Once the setup finished I switched over to a fake card and removed my actual one.

  • E5620's with 16 cores - still 4000 unixbench ?? Fishy ?? aint it.
