Software raid on custom pc

noamannoaman Member

Hi
I am making a budget a pc.Its going to consist of Asus h81m-k and Intel g3258.I already have a hardrive...I was looking to boost its speed using software raid with a cheap 60usd 120gb ssd.....my question is that will it work?
Also any pc advice will also be great...

  • While you can raid a SSD and a partition on a HDD together (On Linux and BSD, not on OSX and Windows) it will be useless in RAID1 as it either caches in RAM (== extremely high ram usage) or is limited by the (much slower) HDD

Best to install OS on the SSD and then run hourly incremental backups to the HDD.

  • I will be installing os on sSd. Basically iws trying do something like SSD-CAched

  • If you are running Linux, dmcache or bcache are your friends

Your looking for something called hyperduo.. Unfortunately it requires a Maxwell raid chip I think....

  • @tehdan....any for windows

  • ssd cache does help if your motherboard supports it. but really i would just use the 60gb as boot disk/intensive app and use your hard drive for storage.

  • Could any one explain me one thing....is ssd cache possible only using a software ...not a dedicated hardware like a raid controller

    Multiple ways, yes.

Your aff link in signature is also useless, Crissic does not sell anything anymore.
