Viking Layer sold to new owner
Just received this by email:
Hi,
Sadly due to me (Philip) being more busy in my personal life I do not have enough time to run Viking Layer any more and I am not able to dedicate full time to the project either since it's generating far less than a livable wage. In fact, Viking Layer is barely making a profit. It's been a fun ride and I've learnt a lot, but I simply do not have the funds and time that's required to keep this business going.
But don't panic! All servers will remain active until 2015-06-15, which means you have a full week to backup all your data and move to another hosting provider (we highly recommend RamNode, for example!). If your service has not expiered by that date, we will offer you a pro-rated refund - just open a support ticket and we will solve it quickly!
For those that have domain names with us, we will move the domain for free to your own https://internetbs.net account, or you can choose to transfer the domain to another registrar, but in that case you need to pay for the transfer yourself. Again open a ticket regarding this.
Again, we're very sorry for this and for the short notice, if you have any questions what-so-ever feel free to send us a ticket.
- Viking Layer
Does somebody have any other VPS provider with RBX and SBG (France) location with a similar price and stability?

Runabove or OVH Cloud for 3 euros a month.
A week. That's not much notice...
Better than no notice at all though and at least they are offering the refunds too.
Can't use OVH/Runabove. I am running high pps/qps DNS resolvers and OVH kept either shutting down the machines or the machines crashed without reason. That's when I moved to Viking Layer.
That didn't last very long...but you have to give them credit for knowing when to discontinue a doomed venture.
Not really, it was clearly doomed from day 1, less than a year in and expectations of a liveable wage, not enough funds to clear the first year of business where you expectations of returning a profit should be very low.
Although to be fair, it seemed like a decent service I never used.
Sad, they were a nice place. Time to go get a refund for my yearly services I paid for a few months ago.
Hi,
I'd just like to update your all that we're in talks with a few businesses regarding a buyout, we will update clients about this via e-mail. Though, it's not guaranteed that it will happen, so make sure you have you important data backed up before the 15th either way.
Wish you all the best!
It's not easy to survive as Viking without scandinavian location.
Hi,
I'd like to notify that the business has been sold to drServer and they will be taking over from now. An e-mail with details will be sent out to all clients as soon as possible.
GalaxyHostPlus offer server in RBX by OVH start from $2
It's amazing the speed your personal data can pass from one provider to another these days.
Am I the only one thinking this comment is very unrelated and unprofessional?
Idk why so many close gates without trying to sell their (slightly profitable) business.
Fusl asked for another provider with with RBX or SBG location.
So I answered with my offer as it's LET forum so that's what it's made for.
Thanks.
sorry didnt notice that.
What happened to this guy - http://lowendtalk.com/discussion/comment/941973/#Comment_941973?
Probably taxes and fees too high in Sweden for spend a lot of time but earn a pennies with these hosting deals. That reason only few local based offers from this region.
I still have it! Might use it for some personal projects or whatnot. I HIGHLY doubt that I will use it to start another hosting business, haha. At least not anytime in the near future at all. I might still hang around here on LET though, we'll see!
Yes, that is part of the reason. Though the main reason I decided to quit was because of how much time this project took up and other personal issues I'm going through at the moment.
I never expected it to make a livable wage in a year or so, I was just simple stating in the e-mail that that wouldn't be possible for me to dedicate all my time to VL. I definitely didn't expect full wage from LEB's in a year, sorry if it came across as so . We where making profit (just not much), so I could've kept Viking Layer going, but I decided that it was best for me to do this anyways.
Either way, I am confident that Viking Layer will do well under the new management of drServer.
Why not MyServerPlanet or ItsChrisG? I find them much better at this.
Please explain ?
I was not contacted by ChrisG. Though MyServerPlanet did contact me. I decided to go with drServer anyways since they made a quick offer and was easy to work with. I have nothing against MSP at all, they seem like a good company.
Lord. Bharat
Good work! DrServer is a highly good choice! Things will work well for you.
Wishing both best of luck for future! :-)
Please if you want to talk about Bharat feel free to PM me or skype me. Maybe you 2 should get some coffee together.
I've a spare bedroom with a lockable door available for the entire summer.
Only got a week spare this 6 weeks. Anyway I would love to go for coffee with his, as long as he's paying.
Same 'ere, son. Busy on LET for five weeks with a weeks holiday somewhere in-between. Gonna be 'ectic.
