I've had a VPS with Leaseweb in the Virginia datacenter for about 6 months or so and I love it. Their control panel includes a firewall, ssh keys, console, etc.

    Here's a quick bench:

    root@leaseweb:/etc/nginx# wget freevps.us/downloads/bench.sh -O - -o /dev/null|bash
CPU model : QEMU Virtual CPU version 1.2.1
    Number of cores : 1
    CPU frequency : 2400.082 MHz
Total amount of ram : 1000 MB
Total amount of swap : 3903 MB
    System uptime : 1 day, 5:23,
    Download speed from CacheFly: 23.2MB/s
Download speed from Coloat, Atlanta GA: 13.1MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Dallas, TX: 19.9MB/s
Download speed from Linode, Tokyo, JP: 8.66MB/s
Download speed from i3d.net, Rotterdam, NL: 12.1MB/s
Download speed from Leaseweb, Haarlem, NL: 21.8MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Singapore: 6.66MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Seattle, WA: 16.5MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, San Jose, CA: 16.4MB/s
Download speed from Softlayer, Washington, DC: 13.3MB/s
    I/O speed : 73.8 MB/s

  • I've been looking for an affordable server in Washington DC, I might check this one, thanks! :)

  • Interestingly, the main page linked above shows the price in euros, but the cart, invoice and paypal payment all show the same number but in US dollars. So it's actually a little cheaper than it appears.

US servers are billed in USD, European servers are billed in EUR.

  • But keep in mind that their hardware isn't really the latest (as far as I read it here, were with them long time ago but and that time is was VERY new to the hosting / VPS world).
