Do you know of anybody who actually had their Dacentec RTO server shipped?

I had a private message and a few instant messages pop up about my Dacentec reply between the kids gushing over a new way to spend $20 regarding my RTO issue.

Does anybody have a friend or know of somebody who actually got Dacentec to ship the server other than "come get it" or "you have to arrange with UPS to come pick it up" (to which the facility address was never provided to me as I had a pissed off ex-Marine client in Charlotte ready to come over in a USMC shirt and maybe throw a reboot monkey off a shipping dock)

I mean, closing an account out... pretty shady and some of "shadiest providers" on the Internet have never treated me like that.

$95 x 23 months = $2185 spent under the guise of "rent to own" on an at most $200 server. If you want to get in the max profits business... may pull a page from Dacentec's RTO playbook.

I ordered the server 11/2012 and it was terminated 10/2014 for being 2 days late because of an issue with their email. Oh yeah, I couldn't pay in their client area with a credit card.. had to use Paypal and after repeat issues with credit card payment, was told that Paypal was my only option. Now they're on here pushing $20 servers..... you were warned.

  • Before some assumptions roll out from the peanut gallery: ONE ABUSE COMPLAINT (client left some porn torrent running) in 23 months, never any support requests and only had issues with billing being unable to process a credit card which is something our local farmer's market can do in the middle of the street with a smart phone.

If you would like to have your server shipped to you you can open a ticket with [email protected] to have the invoice generated for the packing materials and handling. Once the invoice is paid we will send you the dimensions of the shipping box so that you can arrange shipping through your preferred carrier. We will have the server ready to be picked up on the loading dock.

Customers may also come to the facility to pick up the server. There is no cost to pick up your server without any packaging.

I'm sorry but we do not provide shipping for customers and is arranged by all customers.

    Thank You,

    Josh J

Never once provided an address after having somebody scheduled to pick up the server for me after 2 hour drive from Charlotte or to have UPS do a pickup (my guess is UPS just magically knows where "Dacentec" is) but $20 fresh allowance in their pockets is going to cloud better judgement because a mob mentality found a new, fun and easy way to blow $20.

One of my co-workers got his RTO server shipped to him no problem. The server case was damaged during shipping though and can never be racked again but he's got it in his garage so he doesn't care. I can't remember what he paid for shipping but it was a $50 fee to unrack and pack the server. He was disappointed in the condition of the server when it arrived but it didn't stop him from ordering more servers from them. (As an aside, we had one server that was shipped to Dacentec and it was in pretty bad shape when it arrived so even with adequate packaging these things happen.)

I had a RTO server a few months back but I sold it to somebody local to Dacentec so they just went and picked up the server and the had it racked under their account for colocation. I currently have a Rent Only server with them that I use for backups but we have a quarter cabinet with them (currently just 2 switches and a 2U server, but I'll be shipping out a personal server in the future).

Both cases went smoothly through their ticket system and the buyer of my server said they were nice and professional the whole time and he even got a tour from them.

  • Was this before the acquisition or recently post acquisition?

Woot! Good karma coming my way from this post ^. At the exact moment I pressed reply all of my IPv6 IPs came online. :)

Yeah we got 2 of L5420 un-racked for $50 unracking fee & we had to provide them shipping label. I don't know about their physical condition but IPMI was broken on one of those.

  • Interesting, the response I posted was 5-6 months before they terminated the server. I tried to get out and a wall was placed not providing any details. I mean, do you just randomly show up like going to your buddy's house and bang on the door?

  • nevimernevimer Member

I have successfully shipped out a RTO server with them. All I had to do was provide a shipping label, pay $50 and away it went. Server arrived with no damage.

  • How recent?

  • NateN34NateN34 Member

About one year ago, I had a RTO from them.

Sent them a shipping label and they shipped it out for me the next day. Excellent packaging too.

  • I heard a rumor the facility is for sale, which may explain the switch from L5420s and E3s to some of the eBay used stuff for $20

    Proof?

Since dacentec offered to open your account again why not discuss getting the server you have paid for off them rather than spamming their threads?

Also its not that hard to find the address.

I can't name my source. There's a brochure floating around. You do the legwork, it's not hard to verify such a claim.

Hard to find the address? I'm going to send random people and a UPS person when I was told I had to ship a box, wasn't provided an address and given the run around?

I'm trying to warn people about the scam because of my feelings since that's approved around here. Even when I've got a justified example of an issue versus outright feelings. You know, "it doesn't smell right" when a company shifts from racking somewhat decent stuff to racking garbage.

    Ok, Fair enough...

Yeah I get that feeling sometimes, gut instinct can be right but the guys at @dacentec have treated me great so I guess I am content.

You must be unlucky, I can see your point but I don't think it is a scam (like many of the sales we see on here) as systems do get shipped out.

  • It's a pump and dump to inflate company value with a pending sale ;-)

The 3rd owner comes in, looks at everything and figures out a way to drop 1/4 or 1/3 of the company which don't translate to max profits

  • NateN34NateN34 Member

If you haven't noticed, they have always racked older equipment or as you call it "garbage".

PM me the brochure of facility for sale, otherwise you're just trolling.

  • Yet another guy who can't Google. You'll find out soon enough once it's announced. I could troll with something better than the facility being up for sale. I had a feeling this was occurring, the source confirmed a broker was brought in to assist the sale, and well.... search engines. Duh.

The only data center I can find for sale in Lenoir, NC is the Powered Shell Data Center near Google and Dacentec. I can't find anything for Dacentec being for sale or shopped around anywhere. :(

The Powered Shelll Data Center is listed here (the same people involved in the Dacentec sale to Centrilogic in 2013/14): http://www.five9sdigital.com/facilities/ (Dacentec's sale is even listed under "RECENT TRANSACTIONS")

You do know their address is at the bottom of every page on the website.

    Uhhh I guess?

Many DCs have an office not inside the facility. It's easy to white knight the new company playing to the LET crowd. I asked for an address in a ticket and was not provided?

Hardly "gottem" other than the plunder of my payments under the rent to own agreement.

Already did and no results, unless you have some magical version of Google.

Don't see a reason you couldn't publicly post the link......well unless you're trolling.

Really? Why don't you just speak with them... They said they're willing to resolve the issue with you if you contact them...

Nobody is going to give you sympathy unless you use the correct channels of communication. Speak to them... get the evidence you need then if it goes badly you can post the evidence. Until then nobody will care because you've provided no proof other than what looks like a standard email.

Share the links for the sources you mentioned with us from here please.

  • Their NC facility is for sale? Ohhhh someone hit me up with details

The facility address is same as that on the website:

    801 Main , Street NW
    28645 Lenoir, North Carolina, USA

    https://www.google.co.in/maps/place/801+Main+St+NW,+Lenoir,+NC+28645,+USA/@35.92269,-81.542246,3a,75y,244.8h,75.75t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sIDR0Bg_dywulOXhiEnJwmQ!2e0!4m2!3m1!1s0x8850dfa0cf8d528b:0x5dd46dcc5c7cb743!6m1!1e1?hl=en

UPS, FedEX and USPS all deliver and do pickups from the location.

Wow, PM sent on Sunday night to a low end provider and you want to bitch about no response sent? That has got to be the one of the most valid complaints I have ever seen!
