I doubt simply renaming .jpg would work, given the scale Amazon works at they'd be wise to obvious tricks. Something like Apache's mod_mime is sophisticated enough go 'guess' mime-types, reasonable to assume Amazon have at least that level of sophistication and don't rely on file extensions alone.
As an example, just a few lines of PHP code are enough to detect things like that, or prevent them from succeeding.
But I think it'd be even worse that they succeed and that their files are corrupted when they download them.
Yes, those few lines of PHP code probably use the same datapoints as Apache mod_mime.

True, although it does seem to give Prime members partial freebee's therefore I'm hoping they're feeling nice and give them more with the subscription seen as their video streaming feature is dry of anything decent.

The main dealbreaker is that they still don't have a Linux client.
And lack the ability to mount that space somehow.
A kimsufi has 2 tb disks (no raid, though), for 15 Eur a month and can do much more than store some files.
As long as you cannot mount the space and use it like a local drive (Albeit at much lower speeds, of course), I am not interested even if i am not worried about privacy issues, i know how to encrypt the data.
Just wondering, why US based cloud storage providers always wanted unlimited photos and cut other things? Do really need trust them?

I am surprised there appears to be little to no support by 3rd party backup apps/scripts. Doesn't Amazon Cloud Drive have a rest API? Their offer looks interesting, but I don't want to be stuck with the poor apps/webinterface that's officially offered.
I just tried this. The desktop app SUCKS. It won't mount on your computer. The desktop app doesn't even show you your files. You have to go to a web-based view to organize the files you upload with the app. It's really unpractical.

@spammy, did you look at the last time these were updated? They are both over 3 years old. I checked on github and there is very little regarding Amazon Cloud Drive. It's rather disconcerting.
Since they are offering APIs, I suppose we can expect community-based FUSE client(s) in a couple of months.

Considering half of the Internet runs on Amazon's servers I think we can say that we trust them.
