    • expensive , need to buy apps, tools to work with windows
    • expensive and extensive resources, a kvm sever with at least 2GB ram, 50GB HDD is needed.
    • open source is recent, linux was from day 1
    • current hot topic "cloud" most useful stack i came across was linux based.

I would say that it is only because you don't have anything that you need that MUST run or can only run well on Windows.

You will want one when you have that need.

Googled Console2 and found this quote

Console2 is a great little front-end for your existing shell, no matter what it is. Note that Console2 isn't a shell itself, it's just a face on whatever you are already using.

So there goes "need to buy" apps.
For most users there are a free option to almost every software that you need to pay for. Same in the Linux and Mac world.

Takecommand is also a "wrapper" for existing commands, combining cmd and powershell.
What it does have that cmd doesn't have is the IDE.

For the casual reader I'm not trying to convince the rest of the world that Windows is better then any other OS. Use the OS that you are familiar with and you will be more productive.

Me, I could never be a poweruser when it comes to Mac since it is missing some features that I'm used to in Windows.

  • Oh yeah, and some networking monitoring stuff like PRTG and spiceworks only works on Windows.

  • Has anyone used Windows Server Core?

Don't remind me, they were a plague for OVerZold months after launching with loads int he thousands, those people really like to abuse and it was heavy java stuff. However, it runs on linux too.

Oh gosh the frame rate would be terrible though lol.

  • I have few customers using e-commerce software that requires .aspx, .NET and MSQL.
