@mtwiscool Keep digging; just a bit lower will be perfect...

  • It's very great idea and will add much speed to vps!!

  • I need more than 10GB/s in my I/O. Are you gonna serve me the platter?

Is this for your vegan VPS network?

Before anyone crucifies him maybe you want to read this. Explains why he has some difficulty putting his point across.

edit: also this (edit 2: and this)

The guy over at temple OS is completely insane but he wrote his own OS, compilers, programming language etc from scratch. Now if you ask him he had a lot of help from God (and things like the random number generator on a computer is messages straight from God) but it goes to show that someone who lives in a completely different mindset to all of us can still achieve good stuff.

@mtwiscool you're not a bad guy but you should step back a bit and realise you're not ready yet to enter this kind of business. Just because you can't do it today doesn't mean you never can.

Hah! So true yet false at the same time.

Honestly, I don't think people who find it hard to put their point across on a screen (he's also underage) should be doing this sort of thing. Would you pay him even a tiny cent based on what you have seen?

I'm not the only one who shares this opinion. The very fact that he appears not only immature, but is banned from pretty much every popular web hosting forum on the internet (FWS, FreeVPS and who knows what else) proves my point.

Take a tiny shred of advice from me, @mtwiscool. Nobody on the internet is going to be your "friend" in real life. You can have an amazing ball with them, but at the end of the day, if you've never met them.. You can't just go around pretending they are your friends.

Focus on your real life instead of this crap. Trust me, you'll feel a lot better.

He was warned over and over, and started complaining about the warning levels. Not to mention he went into DDOS'ing.

This is not recommended to go with, after the fact he reloaded his node and all VPS had to be re-created.

  • I didn't say to give him a free pass and I didn't criticise anyone in particular, just saying we don't need to be total dicks about it considering everything.

...but so has every BS in computer science.

Your overall point is valid but the above is actually not that amazing.

  • raindog308 said: ...but so has every BS in computer science.

Not every BS has written an OS. My point was more that even in a very fractured state of mind (he's schizophrenic) you can still produce what most people would consider as complex. A lot of programmers who were academically taught or have been programming a long time could code an OS. Do they?

A man says dig a hole one feet across and two feet down, and then he hands you a shovel. You go down to the local hardware store and junk yard and get a bunch of parts to build an excavator and use it to dig the hole.

Simply put "Use what you have, and if you do need to create something because of constraints then do so, but try and use what is already at your finger tips to do so. "

I had a dream once of coding an OS in VB6... it was a very bad shell at best. I was 11 or 12 though ;-)

  • raindog308 said: Well dammit they should before they're allowed to graduate :-)

At this point in time building an OS is a near useless. At the beginning Linux was made for one processor type, same as DOS and Unix. Today we see thousands of different processors and hardware configurations - of which is constantly updated.

We could learn and develop a OS, but the usefulness with quickly disappear. We will quickly become out of date. There is just no use for building an OS when we have Linux and Windows. We could make math libraries - but why, when they exist on all development platforms? Same with the OS.

We now learn languages like C# and Java to promote agile development and to increase the scope/usefulness of our skills. C# and Java can run on most platforms with no modifications, and run as efficiently as C and C++. Because of this business are looking for less for those who know C and more to those who know C#.

  • There is still merit in it and a "good programmer" (no true scotsman etc) will probably end up learning a lot of things like unix theories and concepts... it all depends on your speciality though. I am pretty sure the guys developing Windows for a living would disagree with you.

  • @mtwiscool, like a few others have already pointed out Linux already uses spare ram as an io cache. So your idea is a good one, you just didn't realized it was already built-in to Linux and other kernels.

I realize that I'm new here, but honestly I'm a little disappointed with how the some of LET is treating mtwiscool. Not everyone of course, and yes I have read almost all of the older threads linked here and in other recent posts. I definitely see how some of his behaviour could be trying at times. But I also see a bright young man who is enthusiastic about technology and eager to participate.

It seems to me that mtwiscool cares a lot universal access to the internet. Maybe this is rooted in his personal experience of not being access the internet at times, I don't know. Call me old-fashioned, or socialist, or a hippie, but I think that working as hard as you can towards making hosting accessible to all is pretty damn cool.

It also seems to me that mtwiscool thought it would be a lot easier, and didn't realize how much there is to learn. mtwiscool, that happens to everyone sometimes. It's so common that there's even a name for it: The Dunning-Kruger effect. Misjudging one's own abilities is a pretty normal thing to do, and almost anyone that claims Dunning-Kruger doesn't apply to them is a prime example of the effect.

mtwiscool, I don't think you have enough knowledge and experience yet to run a VPS host. I don't have what it takes either. And even the people that do, the truth is that they always need to keep learning too. If you keep learning and working on projects (focusing on one at time maybe!), sooner or later you're going to have the knowledge and experience to accomplish your goals too. It will be a lot of work, but I'm pretty convinced that you will keep at it.

It's not for me to tell you not to run a VPS host, that's up to you. I like you, but quite honestly at this point I would not use services from your company.

That doesn't mean you have nothing to offer right now. Despite have further to go, it sounds like you have already learned quite a bit. If you ever wanted write a tutorial for LET on something you know a lot about, I would be willing to help you edit for spelling and grammar for free. I'm willing to be patient as long as you are. Feel free to PM me.

  • Well it took me so long to write the above that by the time I hit post comment mtwiscool has been banned. Just so it's clear I was not trying to criticize how staff have handled mtwiscool.

My disappointment was caused by some people laughing at a guy instead of being patient or simply ignoring.

If mtwiscool is out there reading this, I hope you don't give up. But I do hope you slow down a little. Take care, hope to "meet" you again one day!

hehe, I am Vegan but never really considered exploiting it for hosting, I imagine it would have the opposite effect and people would send burgers in the post.

Side note: scan a copy of your Vegan Super Hero ID with any order and get a free hemp shoe.

It's almost impossible, do you know how many Samsungs they kill to make one hard drive?
