What ideas do you have on a (new) uptime monitor?

I am considering making a new uptime monitor tool for myself, because

a) I got spare AI credits per month that would have been wasted if I don't use it on something.
b) Uptime kuma (that I have been using) takes up unnecessary amount of resources and have subpar group monitoring
c) Alternative solutions that i've found seems to be missing features that I care about. Particularly group support and being minimal.

Hence I am considering making my own in golang. Which will be open sourced later. It would ideally have the below features:

  • Lightweight and minimal, small enough to run on an LXC with 256MB ram. Probably like 80MB ram available is plenty.
  • Ship with an API instead of a full dashboard. Dashboard just hosted somewhere else as an static page. If you are willing to, you can monitor the uptime via JSON.
  • Proper group support (e.g. ALL/ANY/WEIGHTED/QUORUM)
  • Unix philosophy, if you need anything more advanced, the tool allows you to run a custom bash script to probe the uptime or determine how to send an notification. (all advanced configs only available via SSH)

Comments

  • I would say it will be nice to have TLS certs monitoring (expiry date) and various DNS records. I have been trying to do it with Uptimepage from @slima4 but it does not work for me. Also, would be great to have HA mode out of the box.
