It will, when you realize that 14+ hours of uptime on at least an M2/M3/M4 will out-pass whatever you can do on an ordinary x86, I will patiently wait until you get there.... it took me 2 decades

Just saying not done on any laptops if all honest, but soldering your own ram pads isnt hardest, templates and a steady hand upgrades both my mac minis :p

If I got steady hand I would have fixed my own phone

    I got 9h :( . But that's enough for typical long flight ( ~8H) flight.

A man that has experience with the M series, turned so many of us over to the apple world we all swore we would never join.

Just shows if you got a good enough product, they will come.

    Dear LET,

I decide to my retire my laptop because I thought it's about time I replace my main machine.
similar spec and situation to @host_c's previous laptop
Now, I'm in unfamiliar situation, as it have these NVMe slots:

    • 1x PCIe 4.0
    • 2x PCIe 3.0

Unfortunately, it doesn't have slot for 2.5" HDD, so, which drive I should choose considering the following:

    • Heavy dev usage
    • Will be running close to 24/7/365 except when I turned it off for travel
    • Last more than 7 years (10y is ideal)
    • Okay with vibration & shocks

I happened to purchased 1x WD IX SN530 2TB nvme for $220 on a whim, should I cancel it?

Budget: below $1k to populate all the 3 slots.
(plan with deferral until AI bubble pops is welcome, as I'm going to upgrade the ram gradually to 128GB DDR4)

would recommend a Sata NVDD 50 with 10 IOP and 128mb storage

    So true........ :D :D :D

I still have to run a Windows VM local on it for some broadcom FC switches we manage, but since thoes are like 4, i can live with that discomfort, and we rarely touch thoes twice a year.

In rest, for the moment, I will never look back.

Imagine the pain i felt after spending ±4K Euros on a x86 Laptop I bought ±6 moths back, it will eat dust in the garage playing YouTube music and VCDS forum reads for the rest of it's life.
