Krypt/iON changed my legacy VPS from $11.11/6 months to $240/6 months and suspended it without a bac
Hi everyone,
I'd like to share my recent experience with Krypt/iON and see if anyone else has encountered something similar.
I purchased this VPS back in November 2020. The original plan was:
- 1 vCPU
- 2 GB RAM
- 50 GB SSD
- 2 TB bandwidth
- $11.11 every 6 months
This wasn't a recent promotion—I had been using it continuously for almost six years. During that time, I even experienced the well-known datacenter fire incident, where the VPS was unavailable for about a month, but I continued to keep the service.
On July 30, I received a ticket stating that my plan would no longer be offered and that I would be moved to their current offering:
- iON Pro 1
- 4 vCPU
- 8 GB RAM
- 160 GB storage
- 5 TB bandwidth
- $40/month ($240 every 6 months)
On August 3, they sent a follow-up saying that if I didn't agree by August 5, the VPS would be suspended.
The VPS was suspended on August 5.
After the suspension, I opened a ticket asking if they could temporarily unsuspend the VPS for 24–48 hours so I could back up my data and migrate my configurations. I also asked whether there were any lower-cost plans available.
Instead of answering those questions, they updated my account pricing to $240 per six months and stated that my remaining prepaid credit had been recalculated under the new price, leaving my service covered only until August 7.
I completely understand that providers may retire legacy plans and adjust pricing over time. I'm not asking them to keep the old price forever.
My concern is:
- The increase from $11.11/6 months to $240/6 months is extremely large.
- The notice period was very short.
- My VPS was suspended before I had a chance to back up my data.
- I had already paid for my current billing period, but the remaining prepaid credit was recalculated using the new pricing.
Ideally, I believe existing prepaid service should have been honored until the original renewal date, allowing customers to decide whether to renew under the new pricing afterward.
Has anyone else with an old Krypt/iON VPS experienced the same situation recently?

@host_c, a challenger emerged
Not same I think.
hostc is increasing price on the existing config (on the storage vps) while above has a completely changed config with a pumped up VPS to multifold.
