Bandwidth-optimized VPS in Switzerland

forestforest Member
edited July 19 in Requests

Unfortunately, @aluy has lost their Swiss location and had to migrate their VPSes to the Netherlands (I don't fault them - it is what it is and they're still a great provider). I already have a VPS with them in NL, so I'm looking to find an alternative in CH. I'm looking for a VPS with the following minimum specs:

  • 1 vCPU (E5-26xx v4 or better preferred)
  • 1.5 GB RAM
  • 5 GB storage (any type)
  • Unmetered bandwidth @ 100 Mbps or 25 TB/month
  • $50/year when paid annually or triennially with cryptocurrency

I will be a long-term customer. My intention is to run a Tor middle relay (not an exit). I do not need a DMCA-ignored or bulletproof host and I do not expect any abuse complaints. Dual stack network strongly preferred. Must have a looking glass (there are some ASNs and upstreams I'd like to avoid). Please disclose if you are a reseller.

This is challenging. Maybe try dropping hosthatch a message about it? Here is what they said a while ago but things may have changed due to the current hardware climate.

I do not see anything against TOR in their TOS and AUP

    @forest who was @aluy's upstream?

    It looks like he said:

@hosthatch said: As a general rule of thumb, you can ask for a free upgrade for the monthly dollar amount you pay for our standard plans

    I don't think I can justify spending $25/month to get 25 TB/month.

I don't remember. Looks like BGP Tools updated already: https://bgp.tools/prefix/45.141.119.0/24#connectivity

I think that's the new NL location, not the CH location.

Agreed but it is free to ask. There is also alexhost, I believe they are unlimited and the cheapest tariff is 64 EUR/y for 2cores/4GB/40GB storage, crypto accepted. Not sure why they charge extra fee to pay with crypto.

Sure thing - we have a $8.88/mo special on our AMD EPYC Switzerland VM's for all LET users, but realistically we can't do anything for $50/year.

UP-NETWORK (Swiss hoster) is fully suitable for your requirements:

    2vCPU
    4GB RAM
    20GB SSD
    Unlimited 100Mbps
    Dual stack (IPv4 and IPv6 /64 subnet)
    DDoS Protection included

Their ToS says nothing about banning VPNs, TOR, or BitTorrent.
I kept the I2P router turned on for 30 days, and everything worked fine.

It is possible to pay in cryptocurrency.

The annual payment (with a 10% discount) plus the commission (7%) of the payment gateway is approximately $36/year (without VAT).

    Website: https://up-network.ch/services/vps-hosting
    LG: https://looking.house/companies/up-network-ch/looking-glass

I have been using a similar VPS for several months now, there are no problems.
There was only a problem with their billing, but it was solved through support.
