  • It is sad that some providers use LET as the stepping stone and dish it calling the community as abuser when they gained traction.

It's unreasonable to expect $5.95 forever.

Be unreasonable, demand the impossible, bend the world to your vision rather than conforming to it.

    That is my motto.

    It should be yours too!

You promised $5.95 and I demand $5.95. If you want to break your promise then break it by lowering the price to less than $5.95 and make it last forever unless you break it again by lowering the price further.

Who made a promise? It's an annual sale with no commitment written in contract.

It's difficult dealing with people making shit up and expecting diva service. Fuck that.

Then I demand you renew your annual sale, if you cannot renew it then provide an alternative offer to replace it and do it on better terms than the old offer and with better service too.

If you can't sustain offer A then create even less sustainable offer B... what kind of logic is that?

It's MJJ logic, I thought you knew that. MJJ logic is very popular here on LET and I love it dearly.

I am not alone in my affection for MJJ logic you know, I know plenty of people who love it too and they love it A LOT.

On $7/y deals, 50% of the cost goes to ipv4 lease. It's definitely loss leader. However, some hosts definitely could make thin margin if they're selling 2c2g/3c3g for $14/21 per year

For the super cheat $6/y plans the increase isn't that harsh but if my server suddenly jumped from 40 to 65 i'd probably also start looking for alternatives.

All the talk about market value also kind of rubs me the wrong way. It somewhat sounds less like "Hey, we need to factor in increased costs" but more like "Hey, if we sold this now we could make more money on it, so either pay up or vacate, thank you". The hardware those deals run on wasn't bought in 2026 after all and doesn't retroactively become more expensive either. The only thing that really affects those deals is operational costs (mainly power).

Raising prices on old outdated hardware just because new cutting edge hardware is much more expensive is dishonest and will not end well.

Providers who choose to do that may be throwing themselves under the bus.

But it might work if you are planning to deadpool in a year or two, then this strategy will pay off for sure.

If you manage to attract quiet customers who are able to sort things by themselves without creating unnecessary support tickets and do not abuse your services then you will surely not make a loss.

If you sell a VPS to me at those prices I assure you that you will not make a loss.

The moving parts of the supporting infrastructure is:

    • storage
    • PSU
    • fan
    • RAM
    • UPS + diesel generator

NVME/SSD are rated for 3-4 years, but they have gone up by 4x. RAM DDR4 has also gone up buy they rarely die (unlike some DDR5). Diesel price has gone up and now going down. PSU, UPS hasn't gone up.
So, it's definitely because of NVME.
I think @SolidVPS has edited out the part that says "failure ... $16-19K for 7TB" . With raid1, that's 16-19K for 3.5TB. That means for every 10GB space, it costs $52/3Y.

    1. IPv4 lease: $900/y per /24. Roughly $3.54 per /32 per year.
    2. Paypal fees: 0.49*$7+$0.49=$0.833/year
    3. WHMCS: $0.47-$1/year

So, $4.843 out of $7/y goes away even with you idling 100%. We haven't calculate colo, power, upstream, moving parts depreciation, labor cost, etc

I hope the price stays the same for the next two years. A slight increase after that would be understandable (Hoping hardware prices will go down in the future).

Works like this: I will not, never, ever, load the VPS I bought from you with more than what it was planned to handle. I will sort things out by myself and I will not create unnecessary support tickets. If you you did your accounting well you will not make a loss because of me.

On deadpooling: 1) you want to deadpool pretty soon so you lower your prices, collect as much money as you can then vanish leaving everyone without service; 2) you plan to deadpol in a year or two so, in the interim, you do your best to collect as much as possible from old customers by tricking them and then, prior to the deadpool, run some irresistible promos to attract new customers as the old ones will already be gone, then vanish taking the money and service with you. In this case you'll have to choose your payment methods wisely and treat carefully those customers who can still be able to chargeback but once they can no longer charge back you can do whatever you want.

Many people do it because it works, it continues to be a popular business strategy, it is no secret.

See? No need for insider knowledge, you can get there through simple logic and paying attention to what you see happening around you.

I guess i'm just not deadpool affine enough for so much science.

See? No need for insider knowledge, you can get there through simple logic and paying attention to what you see happening around you.

    Yeah, simple and brilliant.

Of course, everyone understands that everything is on the rise now. They have had to return to their proper price levels.

You do realize that there's no 100% absolute right or wrong here and it depends on a whole bunch of factors? I'd point those out but then...

But it might work if you are planning to deadpool in a year or two, then this strategy will pay off for sure.

I assure you that you will not make a loss
you just pull the next wild statement out of nowhere and i get impression i'd be wasting my time writing more than 3 sentences.

If you manage to attract quiet customers who are able to sort things by themselves without creating unnecessary support tickets and do not abuse your services then you will surely not make a loss.

If you sell a VPS to me at those prices I assure you that you will not make a loss.

No offense but are you somehow acting silly on purpose because there's some kind of bizarre humor that i fail to recognize? You probably have about as much insider knowledge as i do (read: pretty much none) in regards to what the exact costs, calculations and circumstances etc of various hosts are and yet you somehow manage to universally declare which kinds of deals end up being at least a zero sum game. Could you explain how this works?

Works like this: I will not, never, ever, load the VPS I bought from you with more than what it was planned to handle. I will sort things out by myself and I will not create unnecessary support tickets. If you you did your accounting well you will not make a loss because of me.

Doesn't save them from taking a loss if their calculation/cost (which neither of us knows) doesn't work out though.

Yes, they have to do their calculations right and if they choose to make a loss then they must make sure they'll get paid some other way.

They can sell services to someone at a loss if they can reasonably expect that those lossy sales will lead to many profitable sales.

And if you plan to defend yourself effectively from scammers then you must think like a scammer.

    I have a question

The email makes a big point about the price being honored for over two years

How is it possible that BF24 was over two years ago yet we didn’t have BF26 yet?

It is sad that some providers use LET as the stepping stone and dish it calling the community as abuser when they gained traction.

Don't feel sad, my friend. Sadly, LET is a bit toxic, so this reaction is understandable. However, I hope @SolidVPS will listen to what @forest has said, there are different people on LET.

did you genuinely not notice his rant happened after 2 or 3 actual customers pointed out his increase on legacy plans was happening to plans less than a year old?

I did notice, thank you sweetie

Just in case, let's clarify who is he in 'his rant'.

sorry, solidvps. i was pretty casual with the pronouns there :P

he was spanking you all about being ungrateful since you'd already gotten 2 or 3 renewals, then a handful of people pointed out the prices went up on plans that hadn't even come up for renewal yet THEN he called you all dirtbags and vowed to never post offers here again.

(i paraphrased a ton sorry, any mistakes are my own)

Yes I am aware, but my edits are merely stylistic or to stress a point, I try not to change the substance.

    SORRY

Yesterday while doing a last second edit I somehow managed to get it all mangled, totally garbled, it ended up totally wrong. It's a bad habit I know and it can have unpleasant consequences as I found out. That comment already had a thanks, I guess the edit made her look stupid.

    Sorry

I like your posts a lot, you are honest and I find you contributions always valuable. Thanks for being here!
