@Francisco is there any news on when namecrane domains can be expected?

There is a beta on discord.

You can signup on https://namecrane.org/ and you’ll get $10000 Franbux to order some domains.

Dnssec isn’t wired up yet, but the managed dns service should be all good to go. I released docs on GitHub yesterday.

DNS will be free and included with all domains. It won’t be a separate paid service.

namecrane.com Login Details will not work with namecrane.org?

    Correct.

Nothing is synced so just reg up.

ok. fine. In past 7 days the LU performance was better. No downtime ticks as such.
    when can we expect?
    1. RHEL9 migrations
    2. Bumping CPU/RAM

    1) Given the issues we ran into with MySQL in Singapore yesterday, the smarter play is to upgrade the licenses on all of DA, that way we're able to get the latest supported SQL. I think i'll get the licenses done today?

    2) still waiting on final word from Mike then we'll act.

hope we don't have to wait upto next Black Friday! :p

  • @Francisco We have also started seeing some issues with the PhpMyAdmin access of the managed database hosting. Could you kindly look into this - CRANE-20176?

Sure, I'm assuming its the same socket thing we saw elsewhere.

    Give me a sec :)

Thank you for resolving it :)

Same here. Just checked Hetrix Tools for a site still there, 7 days 100% uptime. Probably the first time since migrating like 6 months ago.

Does this mean no possibility of hosting DNS for names registered outside of NameCrane?

No no no, no at all. We're not going to cloudflare you.

This is just managed DNS if people want it, and its free.

Attached are some screenshots of the DNS system, as well as the domain viewing page for those not taking part in the beta.

  • Will you be offering .uk or .scot domains?

Yes but not immediately. I already started enrolling with nominet but it has extra requirements with corporate contact details.

  • @Francisco Are domain registrations live in beta mode? I'm seeing pricing of $1/year.

These are all 'testnet' domains, so it doesn't cost us anything, but they don't work either.

Every TLD offers whats called 'OTE', Operations & Testing Environment. A test network that operates the exact same as the public TLD, but without real money, and doesn't resolve.

The namecrane.org site is wired into OTE for a few TLD's so you can order on there and poke around, give feedback (mostly UX feedback at this point).

In the case of .xyz, you can check https://whois.ote.centralnicregistry.com/ to see the updates apply pretty quick.

  • @Francisco Thoughts on using Backuply instead of JetBackup in your shared/reseller servers?

I tested it and one feature I find great is that end users (cPanel users) can actually add their own backup destinations (SSH, S3, FTP, SFTP, Google Drive, OneDrive). They can also set a backup schedule and add multiple backup jobs, not sure how it will affect server resources but I assume this can be restricted somehow in the admin side.

Backup logs are also available and you can watch while the backup is being executed.

Though as a reseller, you still cannot access any of these settings in the reseller WHM.

We haven't tested it, I wanted to see it mature some more before we threw anything at it. If I could get away from paying Jet as much as we do that'd be awesome.

People really like Jetbackup and we'd need it to be pretty close to parity, especially in the visuals. The softaculous guys are more 'utility' in their designs/building than elegant. That does matter for end users if they think something is clunky to work with.

  • Hello @Francisco, I would like to request permission to create a new account with NameCrane. I have an old account that I prefer not to use anymore if you let me open a new account as it contains old data, logs, credential that I'd like to leave behind. I'd prefer to start fresh with a clean account and billing records.

    I appreciate your consideration.

Go ahead, snowflake. Just buy a new package and cancel the old one. That's the cost for what you ask for.
