What's That One Piece of "Dumb" Tech You Secretly Love?

rurutiarurutia Member

We're all surrounded by smart devices – phones, watches, speakers, you name it. They're powerful and incredibly useful. But I was thinking, what about the "dumb" tech? Those simpler, often single-purpose gadgets or tools that aren't connected to the internet, don't have an AI, but just work and make your life a little better or more enjoyable.

For me, it might be my basic, old-school alarm clock. No blue light, no notifications, just a reliable way to wake up. Or maybe a really good mechanical keyboard that just feels great to type on, without any fancy software.

What's your favorite piece of "dumb" tech that you still use and appreciate in this hyper-connected world? It could be anything from a kitchen gadget to a specific type of pen!

    May I derail a bit?

Pugjs, but it's been long abandoned, I mean not actively maintained.

If hardware is mentioned, I propose MS mouse, IE 3.0. I am still using this fat looking mouse.

Windows 7 is a classic, and it still works in various parts of the world.

My bicycle, This is my bicycle. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

If someone argues and says it's not technology since it has no power. It has battery powered turn signals and headlight/brake light.

    myself.

  • I love this question. For me, it’s probably my wired headphones. No Bluetooth pairing, no battery to charge—just plug in and go. They never glitch out, the sound’s solid, and honestly, there’s something comforting about how straightforward they are. In a world full of “smart” stuff, it’s nice to have tech that just works.

That thing is a legend man. I keep buying it years after years. Easier to buy a new one rather than replacing the battery.

Still love my square g-shock though.
