$2.50 per month or below small kvm vps picks?

What are people's recommendations?

Low cpu and ram requirements. Just a small linux install to possibly host a couple of phpbb forums which is only a few mbs from what I have read then a few gigs for possible posts and other files.

Ipv4 to potentially do ssl on normal port.

    while people here prefer $7/yr

    We prefer $1/month with monthly billing.
    The credit card gives a small balance waiver if the statement balance is $1 or less.

  • Where are these $7 per year offers? I have not seen any so far or I may well be interested.

    As low as $2.25/mo by prepaying for 3 years.

    Or 5 cents above your budget, but $2.55/mo if paid for 1 year.

    Out of the offers I saw here I'd likely take the one from @Alyx (but beware that Germany increasingly is Gestapo territory, so FFM may be a bad choice, depending on what your forum is about).

    That said, actually that is, independent of the offers here in this thread, I'd highly likely go with @xHosts (<$20/yr) or with @Chunkserve (even cheaper IIRC), because both were clearly bang per buck winners in my recent benchmark&review shootout of 18 or so LET providers.

    As for your use case: unless your forum is super small, in particular in terms of requests per second and number of visitors, you might want to re-think your approach. Reasons: phpbb needs a DB and uses PHP which boils down to 1vCore and 1 GB is unlikely to perform satisfactory.
    The good news is that >= 2 (decent) vCores, >= 2 GB memory, and a not ridiculously small disk (like <= 10 GB) is feasible with your budget.

    What is FFM? What you mean Gestapo territory? lol.

    Well there are 0 visitors and won't be any until I advertised it somehow as I do not already have a user base or anything. As was mentioned earlier on here, if I want to upgrade later I can.

    FFM = Frankfurt

    Tho, no idea what the gestapo comparison is supposed to mean.
    But you can host what ever forum you like
