I have the nano 2g vps special from a while back ($12 every 6 mo). Does the current flash sale have any better deals than that?

    Imo no

and that thread in general should have a few representative samples.

On the whole, with Netcup, disk and network are usually very solid. CPU is kind of pretty variable for VPSs (but much better/consistent for Root Servers). The machines are VERY stable though and if you don't have a particularly CPU sensitive workload just go for them.

    windows possible?

I think yes but BYOL (I think they only give you access to the trial version or whatever).

Also, see https://lowendtalk.com/discussion/203022/error-installing-windows-in-netcup-vps - may get some help there as well.

probably, but I never actually cared about it, also on other installations.
If I need more RAM I either upgrade or add SWAP file.

The models are different. Haven’t really seen any steal, but didn’t really pushed those machines to it’s edge either

Iirc I get around 1500-2000 GB6 score for the RS line and -1200 GB6 for the VPS line. And also you are not allowed to push the CPU for a long period of time for the VPS line, while you can keep using it 100% for the RS line

Funfact, if you buy their nuremburg location, their disk is fast. But if you buy their Austria location, the CPU is fast(1.6k single, 6k total in 8G4C).

From what I have heard, they temporarily block the service(s) and then ask questions. Depending on the case, they either remove the block, terminate the service, or terminate your account.

Be aware that their legal team doesn't work on weekends, holidays, etc., so if you are blocked on a Friday, they won't look at your tickets before the following Monday.

Their terms pretty much say the same thing:

If the customer breaches the code of conduct as set out above or if there is a well-founded suspicion of the same, netcup is entitled to temporarily block the provision of services normally provided to the customer. This applies particularly if a cease-and-desist order is brought against the customer by third parties for certain specified reasons that are not manifestly unfounded, or in the event of an investigation being conducted by state authorities. If possible, netcup will grant the customer a hearing before withdrawing services; if the urgency of the situation makes this impossible, netcup will inform the customer after the event and offer the latter an opportunity to make a statement. Services are resumed as soon as the suspicion proves groundless or infringements are identified that entitle netcup to terminate the contract without notice.

The Germany x86 hovers around 1000. Okish.

RS is different beast. I throttle it to around 60%-70% and only then both the CPU comes somewhat equivalent performance in real usage (for example, equivalent fps in encoding provided all other parameters same including os)

Disappointed with the shared and exceeded the expectations with RS.

  • Netcup flash deals will end soon and this is the way that you can get the server you want for the cheapest price
Head over to https://www.vpsbenchmarks.com/hosters/netcup then navigate for "netcup coupons" there you will see a promo code which is 5€ , grab it and go to https://www.netcup.com/en/deals and select the server you want , for example for myself I got VPS 1000 G11 SE which has double storage and is permanently cheaper and it's only 5.75€ , then add the voucher that you just grabbed and place it , and there you go , now you only need to pay 0.75€ for a server with 4v cores , 8gb ddr4 ram , 512gb SSD
    Don't miss it out.

  • Buy the RS.

With just 2.50 euro more, the performance gets multi fold.

@raza19 didn't catch up with u for sometimes, how's your ARM doing btw?

Came to think of it, i might actually migrated my main vm here cause 512 GB NVMe

It has been running smooth! I am luving it :D I have like 8 docker instances running on it. The network above all is commendable. Never seen such consistent performance from any shared network ports. The cpu too is reliable.

These are by far one of the best vps deals on the planet :) I am thinking of becoming a netcup affiliate now 😂

This makes me happy singe I believe I accidently recommended it before I realized it was ARM

If you're using the US location, make sure to update /etc/resolv.conf. The default DNS servers are located in Europe, which causes things to get routed to Europe instead of staying in the US (including deb.debian.org when installing packages).

Also on my ARM VPS, /etc/apt/sources.list was using debian.anexia.at (which is located in Europe) instead of deb.debian.org (CDN hosted). Switched it to deb.debian.org for faster downloads.

Numbers wise yes - NUR is fast on disk but seems like CPU is relatively slower (this is for VPS). VIE is fast on CPU but disk is much slower (seems more like capped IO and I think well above usability thresholds for most use cases but it's not YABS top of the charts).

RS is good cpu in NUR but disk is slow (like VIE). So it's quite uncharacteristic.
