    @dcc

    Check out the following:

    root@default:/var/www# cpan
    cpan[1]> install CPAN
    Going to read '/root/.cpan/sources/authors/01mailrc.txt.gz'
    ............................................................................DONE
    Going to read '/root/.cpan/sources/modules/02packages.details.txt.gz'
Database was generated on Sun, 19 Jan 2014 06:06:09 GMT

    ..............
      New CPAN.pm version (v2.00) available.
      [Currently running version is v1.960001]
      You might want to try
        install CPAN
        reload cpan
to both upgrade CPAN.pm and run the new version without leaving
      the current session.

@dcc, I cant even configure cpan without your server killing the process.

Here's me trying to install a perl module (a simple task):

    root@default:/var/www# cpan App::cpanminus
    Going to read '/root/.cpan/sources/authors/01mailrc.txt.gz'
    ............................................................................DONE
    Going to read '/root/.cpan/sources/modules/02packages.details.txt.gz'

Been using one of your 512 Plans (6GB SSD, 500Gb Bw) since July and I just want to mention that those machines are very good. Almost no downtime at all, and this Kiwi panel with snapshots and migration features is really cool :)

Any chance for something like those plans again?

    Yes, very good service!

This looks like OOM. Have a look into /proc/user_beancounters inside of your VPS or let me know your VPS IP and I will verify.

I just opened a support ticket mentioning my IP.

You're right. I found that cpan was amassing RAM till it got killed.

Hint to anyone else trying to run cpan on a low memory VPS. Try cpan minus. It works.

    I've sent you a message :)

  • Possible to get more disk space? Its a bit low :(

    And bigger packages available?

  • Thanks to send me test ip for Florida and Arizona. I will choose one which has better ping to my country :-)

    Awesome offers :D

  • Almost bought two but then saw TOS. It would be perfect for private bouncer if they would just allow IRC.

@dcc looks like GeoIP for Florida is still not updated. Not that I care much, but still wanted to let you know :)

  • @dcc very unfortunate you disallow every IRC activity (not even pure client usage). I wanted to grab one as a bouncer initially, but don't want to break the TOS. Maybe you/you're team change your mind when it's 2006-ish and you don't even remember what exactly happened back then. Allow client usage and I'm in ;)

  • This would be really cool. Personal IRC usage (IRC clients, bouncers) should not be problematic. Most hosts allow it. Lift this restriction and I am in.

    Have a look at bandwagonhost.com
Sorry, we cannot increase disk for one VPS.

Thanks, I have submitted a correction request to Maxmind.

I have clarified things regarding IRC, here's why bouncers are not allowed. Back in 2006 we were hit by a few DoS attacks aimed at bouncers. From what we understood, this is done so that someone else (a hacker) can login with the same username. IRC is prohibited on our services since then.

  • @dcc

But the plans on bandwagonhost are a way more expensive :(

  • I'm very happy with their service so far.

I just picked up 5 128mb VPS's for various RabbitMQ consumer bots and they perform great. I had them at all three data centers, but I've moved all of them to the Phoenix location because I discovered that the host that holds my MySQL database happens to be in the same datacenter and having sub-1ms response time rocks.

I just wish their non-micro prices were similar to the other offerings I've seen around here or if they had a 256mb offering.

  • Let me clarify... They do have a 256mb offering, but it's $36 a year. Since the 128mb is $6 a year, I just couldn't justify the price difference. Better to get 6 128mb VPS's than 1 256mg VPS for my needs!

Wait, our 256 MB package is actually $19.99/year :)
    Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

  • @dcc

But 256/512MB offers would be awesome as well :P

    YES

    Bring Back $10 for 512MB!

  • dccdcc Member, Host Rep

We can look into making a 512 MB promo @ our Florida location. AZ is packed at the moment so there is no point really - we will run out of stock right away.
