Threads like this are spammy IMHO.
Discourse, fuck no.
User and data migration, obviously.
It shouldn't be THAT difficult unless Vanilla has some complex foreign relationships.
Considering how simple it is, the database design should be simple enough too.
The problem is SEO and impact it would have also apart from database tables there's much more to look at, for example the willingness to move away and adapt something new....... If Jon doesn't want to it won't work either way......
I've never had to migrate a forum, just been part of forums that have made that complaint several times.
That is when I would leave and never come back.
I get it. change can be tough, especially when you're comfortable with something.
but what specifically about discourse makes you say no? Both platforms offer significant advantages in terms of features, performance, spam control, moderation and SEO if that is your concern.
I agree entirely, but "if you can't beat them, join them". Without these types of threads, the amount of sales is dramatically lower and it'd be impossible to justify the cost of the provider tag.
I'm sure you can probably pinpoint the rise of these types of threads to the moment in time that provider tag fees became a thing.
Really? Or is that just the excuse used for justification?
Yes, rEaLlY, otherwise I'd have not written it.
We almost cancelled our tag last year (see below) because the cost of refunding fraudulent orders originating from LET was actually higher than both the cost of the provider tag and revenue from sales threads for some periods in 2024 - even with the giveaway threads.
For as long as it's allowed, we'll take every advantage we can.
I think the real effort here would be for the forum to have the ability for a user to exclude a category or keyword from the front-page feed. Problem solved for all involved.
It's time to cancel the provider tag.
A mass cancellation would cause LET owners to rethink their position and finalize the policy change.
just change to Invision community and call it a day. all included with $200 patron tag and more.
Meanwhile at the new MegaThread....

But

O my oh my it really rings on me them ear I hear ๐
Glad to help make it audible
Do we need to play tic-tac-toe again to pass the time?
Or hangman
I wonder how many other providers feel like this.
I was actually gonna get that deal but I hate that practice so much and didn't wanna engage for the sake of an extra vcore
i think you fall within the minority.
As a customer sure, but I was asking about the providers, like AllHost mentioned
I'm sure a few think it's dumb, and only do it because it's necessary these days due to everyone else doing it (again, like AllHost said, "if you can't beat them, join them")
As a customer I just hate seeing the same threads being bumped to the front page all of the time, and every time I search for a host, all I get is people spamming their order numbers, it's impossible to actually find feedback about the host
