Linux Distro for HP ThinClient T5740
So, I recently got this tiny old CPU and been wondering if I can fit linux on this super-weak box.
Specifications:
Intel Atom N280 1.66GHz (32bit only)
Arch: i686 only
4GB ram
16GB Flash
I've tried Bunsenlabs, puppy, antiX and nothing works (can't even start the live mode)
Slitaz: live mode works but installation via tazpanel failed.
Other mainstream distro doesn't support i686 architrcture anymore.
Rolled back to windows xp right now.
Do you guys have any suggestion?
Thanks.

Alpine works on i686, maybe you can go with it.
Alpine linux is easy to use and resource efficient
Noted.
Any other distro guys?
FreeBSD (14.2, newest release) still works for i386/i686.
Edit: obviously it's not Linux but similar in many situations.
Thank you!
slackware still available for x32 & x64. you can check their derivatives (porteus, etc) for x32 support. use distrowatch for current update.
Just use a i386 edition of your favorite linux distro.
Thank you, I use distrowatch for reference but the new x86 version of linux (I tried debian based x86 isos) none worked
Can you name some?
4 GB is not tiny at all.
For 32-bit x86-only try these:
A couple of more exotic options:
Debian, thanks.
I am using Debian i386 on my dell wyse 5010.
Any link for downloadable iso?
Yes I would love to use debian
Thank you!

Or use the parent... Slackware

Thanks!
For installing Linux on an HP thin client YouTube is your friend.
I have used this iso to install https://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/current/i386/iso-dvd/debian-12.9.0-i386-DVD-1.iso
Just recalled a couple more suitable distros I haven't looked at for a while:
Thank you!
If nothing works you can always try arch
Sure, thank you!
