    What's racknerd cpu usage policy?
I want to do transcoding with ffmpeg.
Speed does not matter to me.

Fair usage and insta suspension if you create trouble for the "neighbors" and the "node", so no ffmpeg on the VPS i guess.

That's sad. I wonder if it's banned for me in the provider I use...

It depends on the provider at what they consider fair share, they might have it stated in their AUP and atmost the VPSs are limited to 25% of average CPU usage(doesn't apply to many hosts). If your usage only occasionally spikes an gets back to minimal usage then you are probably fine.

Yea and i can also limit my ffmpeg cpu usage to like 10-20% of a vCPU

Yeah, I use it for like only minutes per day. Nothing about fair use in any place on the site...

    No for my youtube site

I think you need a VDS

Do you know what "trouble" means? I've been running a minecraft server on one for 2 days. Its working great. It does use a lot of CPU though but its not running at 100%. often runs about 80% when everyone is running around doing stuff. Seems to be hovering closer to 20%-30% most of the time though

if you are only doing the high usage for couple of minutes then you don't have to worry, also try to find the AUP and read it as some hosts tends to limit the fair share to 10% or so...

It's just simple CPU steal, for example let's say i have four VMs each sharing a single core, imagine what will happen if i max the cpu usage on one of the VMs, the other three's CPU tasks will be put on hold until the one using the full cpu releases the load.

It's a small provider so no AUP in their site as it seems...

Yeah, but i want low costs. Speed does not matter as this will be for background processing.

try checking the TnC some includes the usage policy in TnC

So I can't use 100% of the CPU that appears in the virtfusion panel, right?

It only says "excessive absue" is not allowed

  • TrKTrK Member

@DeusVult said: So I can't use 100% of the CPU that appears in the virtfusion panel, right?

If the cores aren't dedicated(VDS) then no you can't utilize the 100% CPU all the time, occasional spikes are fine let's say my VM jumped to 100% while compiling for 5-6 minutes a day and get back to 1-2% after that isn't violating the AUP.

  • TrKTrK Member

@BasToTheMax said: I hope so. I will probably DM dustin to ask

Dustin always comes to rescue, i hope the AUP isn't lower than 25%.....

  • TrKTrK Member

@DeusVult said: It only says "excessive absue" is not allowed

then you might want to clarify with the provider about the fairshare limit on resource usage especially what they consider excessive in their terms.

Sounds like your new lappy can start with zen browser from the start :) That should meet that month timeline

  • I've DMed dustin :)

  • How's that notification count coming, @Beniskickbutt

  • For what its worth this is for RN. Doesnt seem to say what it is specifically

VPS customers are expected to monitor their usage and utilize our services in a manner that is considered fair share and not abusive to the Disk I/O or CPU. If you require dedicated resources and want to max it out, we would recommend getting your own dedicated server (feel free to contact our sales team for a discounted quote).

It depends on the last date, anything can happen and i don't see you relinquish your top position this year.
