Control panel tips/recommendations?

XNQXNQ Member

Hi-hello-heyo!

I'm currently looking for a control panel that would be able to support the following:

  1. WordPress one click installation
  2. WP clone/staging with easy push/pull either direction
  3. Custom PHP, Laravel, static pages etc.
  4. Support both NGINX, Openlitespeed/Litespeed Enterprise (preferably OLS)
  5. Would like to be able to use different servers for specific purposes; such as one server just for databases, one for WP (runing OLS), one for Laravel/static/PHP sites running NGINX and so forth.
  6. Good UX; being able to easily create DB's, users, change PHP versions per site, restart services, tail logs, etc etc.

I will not be using any kind of email software on the servers, so won't be needing anything to support that. Everything goes through @jar , as it always should.

I've previously tried out:

  1. Ploi.io: love-hate relationship; random issues when installing on new servers. WP staging is super janky, imho. Works great for zero downtime deployments with Git, superb Laravel support. Good pricing.
  2. Xcloud.host: best one so far if it's strictly for WordPress, won't support anything else out of the box, which truly sucks. Good pricing.
  3. Enhance.com: seemed 'okay', hasn't had any updates since August, yet claims to strictly push updates every 2-3 weeks; not wanting to invest to much into this platform as it may be 'dead' or not receive any updates fast enough.
  4. Runcloud.io: pretty decent alternative, supports most of my wants/needs, but is kinda pricey in terms of what you get, and sometimes pretty laggy control panel on my end.
  5. Serverpilot.com: haven't used in 8+ years, seems they switced pricing models since I last used and doesn't seem to have much of my wants/needs.
  6. CyberPanel: it's been quite a while since I last tried it, but has pretty frequent CVE's which I'd prefer to stay away from as much as possible.
  7. cPanel/DirectAdmin/Plesk: just.. no. No. nope.

I have heard of CloudPanel, but their devs seem hell bent on just using NGINX and Varnish and would never implement Openlitespeed for their platform, so that's a no-go.

Knowing LET's knowledge of panels, someone out there must be sitting on some information about this, and I would love to hear it!

Thanks!

Yeah it seems so.. my current host doesn’t provide any cheap DA licenses either, and cPanel / Plesk I stay away from like the plague. > @seenu said:

Afaik they won’t ever implement it. Check their forums for the feature and you’ll see they shoot it down real quick with a snappy attitude. :(

  • Try hestiacp - Supports nginx but not sure about openlitespeed.

As it is open source control panel it will be the easiest to mod to suit your need.

Using cyberpanel is like opening your server door for backdoors.

Curious what kind of bugs are you referring to? Plus author is pretty open to fixing things quickly as reported.

  • I'll second the free version of aapanel. I use it with openlitespeed with over 100 sites have had no issues (Except that one time I used the beta branch)

Wow. How much traffic do these sites usually get? And this panel is hosting all together or spread across?

I don't have the paid version so there are no accounts but they all run on 1 server average between all of them is about 20k ish visits a day. Everything is hosted from the server except DNS and E-mail.

How about ServerAvatar? I don't know whether they support static site or custom PHP.

That's impressive. I need to give it a try. Thanks.

  • Thanks for the responses, everyone! I did just give OpenPanel a try just in case I could use it, even tho it won't ever support OLS, and speeds are pretty dang good.

But I will definitely spin up another VM with aaPanel to try it out! :)

Tried to install it on ubuntu 22.04, got stucked with error while Generating rndc.key for DNS zone management. Then i manually installed it and then, overall, fater playing around it feel like not ready for production. So thought of not wasting the time. There was 2 type of accounts 1 for apche and 1 for nginx, so i tried to remove apache as i dont want it, then suddenly i got a 404 error.

You have to remove it from the app store within the control panel, then you can install openlitespeed from the same area.

Hmm. I encountered other errors and got fast resolution from the developer.

Issues are always going to come somewhere or other. I haven't had much issues with whatever I used for

  • Running the aaPanel compiling sure takes its time.. while that's running I got another VM up and running to try out Cleavr.io, never heard of it and stumbled upon on it while searching on Reddit.. it looks promising, time will tell!

Just a quick update after getting Cleavr.io installed and configured for a test WordPress site; I am thoroughly impressed with the performance. I set it up to use Nginx, PHP 8.4 and utilize FastCGI cache and I am currently throttled by Hetzner's network while loadtesting the website, pushing 1.8 Gbit with Loader.io.

    Load test: https://loader.io/reports/c7a4e6d15981de2883d94d32eee95d8e/results/3075956d3e1f57b48b0523dec32c76bc

As Hetzner won't be my actual host and my current provider is on 10G connection, I believe it would be even better on my production server.

Time to test out the other features for Laravel, Git deployment etc.. but it looks promising!

  • semms your needs are the same as mine, now I use cloudpanel and fastpanel, will try others once you find the best one. I will try xcloud soon (waiting some good vps deals)

Haven't heard of Fastpanel before, looks interesting. Will evaluate tomorrow!

Xcloud.host is so far the best one for WordPress, but I utilize so many different platforms.. WP, Laravel sites, custom PHP sites, static HTML, Node/Python apps etc., which they don't support at all. At least not just out-of-the-box.

I've had a few hours with Cleavr.io and haven't had any issues; provisioned it on 3 of my servers and it's running flawlessly. Automatic git deployments is super easy to setup as well, and to include your own custom scripts/commands before/after each deployment is another plus in my books.

  • i used aapanel before and it was great.
i saw someone mentioned 1panel, have anyone here use it? would love to hear your experience.

one more good point about cleavr.io is they provide 50% extra discount on annual plan if you are a student or you come from a developing country. I mean that is very thoughtful.

  • +1 for FastPanel

I am using serveravatar .com . Does all the functions mentioned above and some more . It's paid tool but if you manage multiple servers, it is well worth the price. Here is my aff link in case you want to look. Otherwise just g00gle serveravatar .com

I tried Server Avatar as well but felt pretty sluggish, not sure if it was anything on my end or not but decided not to pursue it any further. Still evaluating Cleavr, but it hasn't let me down in the past week at least. Hopefully, it'll be the one I stay on for the next couple of years!

  • How about cyberpanel + cloudlinux to improve security?
