Jar saves the day, MyW to continue (WAS MyW is closing doors)

Dear MyW clients,

I still remember when we launched MyW in June, 2019 - since then, it's been 5 years since we launched our first offer. I had expected MyW to grow further, by launching new products and trying to innovate. This was actually planned. The recent investments a few months ago to move to rented IPv4 subnets and owned IPv6 prefix, and to better hardware that'd allow us to launch our VPS offers that, due to the lack of time as I had a fulltime job, didn't actually happen.

Unfortunately, I have lost my job recently and even tough MyW could handle the monthly bills, before we invested to better hardware and subnets, I can no longer keep this project alive. It has been a month and a half jobless, everything is due currently. From servers, to licenses, and even at the personal level (my rent, bills, etc). The money I had last month was to pay for the servers, and I tried to get a job as soon as possible so we could continue to operate. It's no longer feasible.

It is with sadness that I announce that MyW is closing its doors. I have asked for payment extension for all our servers and subnets, but I cannot guarantee any exact time, nor prediction. Some are already well past due, and the providers we've been using have been more than great to me. I had high hopes that I could get a job ASAP so I could not only survive, but to keep MyW alive.

My sincere apologies for the lack of proper notification - I tried to go the extra mile and paid for everything until I can no longer pay for anything at all.

As so, I urge you to create backups as soon as possible and migrate elsewhere, I'd recommend migrating to Namecrane, Francisco is not only great, as his hardware and network is very decent. Their pricing is great, it works flawlessly.

We thank our clients for trusting us for over 5 years, it was a great experience, both professionally and personally.

Once again, my apologies for closing shop - it's been a hell of a ride.

    This is sad news. :/
Namecrane and RackNerd are both good choices with relatively low prices and quality services.

Maybe providers can post offers that could be helpful for users that are on MyW.

  • oh sorry to hear that

@labze consider buying this business ? who else can be interested @host_c

  • Sorry to hear about your job loss. We've appreciated your services which have been flawless for us. All the best in the future.

Thanks for letting us all know in advance of the predicted shutdown.

  • yet another lifetime scam

how do you plan to refund clients?

Our business is way too small, plus, with the current hardware, IP subnets and such, it's not really profitable.

Once again so sorry for failing on you guys. Even though I didn't comment in any threads recently, I was trying to do my best to keep the business alive.

We've had lifetime plans active for 5 years, not sure how that's a scam.

  • Good luck, focus on what's important, things will get better.

Isn't myw sold "life time" plans? Hm... Exit scam odor?

@MikePT said: We've had lifetime plans active for 5 years, not sure how that's a scam.

Typical life time of a human is ~75 - 85 years. So, 5 years is just 5 years. Yes, this is exit scam. That's the sad part. But hey, community is ok with 20k scam. So this blunder will fade fast, don't worry. Next time, when you get a job, we will wait your next project!

do we have at least 15 days in hand? I need to migrate few personal sites and I'm away from my home/office for next 2 days.

also, can you please toggle off the bitcatcha firewall (i don't remember the correct name) so that DA to DA migrations can be done via namecrane.

I too recommend namecrane US is best, and racknerd europe best for shared hosting. I've transferred few sites from myw and hostbrr.

Blame LET for allowing such offers. Not that I think OP intentionally mislead anyone, but lifetime offers are impossible and shouldn't be allowed anyway.

Life time of company not the plan, so it’s normal practice in UK to sell life time warranty/insurance or plans close the business on Friday and re-open on Monday under the new name. In early 2000 a few shops did closing down sales and re-open on Monday as new shop with new name - very easy to avoid any responsibility to fulfil them and cost around £20-£50 to register a new Ltd company!

Our monthly payments and other offers such as Server Administration etc kept MyW afloat for 5 years, we then expanded to better hardware, subnets and so on, was no longer profitable, nor I have money personally. Not even to pay for my rent.

I didn't mean any disrespect. You've been around a long time! I just meant I don't think such plans should be allowed is all. I wouldn't buy one from Hetzner or Digital Ocean, either. Who knows what 5, 10, 15+ years bring to a company. Change of ownership, economic hardship, etc.

It indeed is, I had great plans for MyW once I could get time to actually work on advertising our VPS platform, which exists:

Plans were all there, but as I lost my full time contract, I could no longer pay for the servers. I spent my personal money last month renewing servers.

Thank you so much for your offer, I really, really appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.

  • Well, to avoid "exit scam" label there could be made few decisions:

    • Sell business
    • Take a loan, investment or just rob 20k to keep infra alive
    • Give away business to save customers and reputation for "life time" services

Non of that manifested. Ah, fck it, blame that on users and surrounding that "allows such offers".

I get you completely, and there were lessons that I learned with MyW, it was a learning rope for 5 years, I had an amazing time running MyW and serving thousands of websites, really had.

It's not profitable with the current infrastructure, so I'm unsure anyone would want it.
Plus, dealing with customer data and "giving it away" is just... Pretty rough for me personally, but if there's any provider willing to do it, just PM me.
