Damn, I missed the Thanksgiving stuff while contacting OVH support last week. That was the bad mistake I did. (Even with no Thanksgiving last week). Always sth. to learn in OVH world.

Also: isn't that Canadian support and don't they have Thanksgiving earlier then the US?

    Thanked by 1loay
  • This was a US account but the server was in BHS. Not sure where the support rep was located.

  • Got my KS-STOR today with 10g down, 500 mbit up and no other surprises. But 10g down is nice either way

  • Ah, ok, OVH US. That is a totally different league there than OVH EU or CA.

(but you are paying 6 dollars more per month)

  • Now since school is in session. Can you all teach me what the policy/procedure is for server returns? Suddenly I have a RISE-LE-3 that I don't need which had a $100 setup fee + $100 fee for this month. Any chance that they will restock it and provide a credit or something?

Don't know on OVH US. In EU, if you are a private (non-business) consumer, you can step down from the order in the first 14 days and get the paid money refunded (and have to return the server). Won't work if you are a business.

Problem is: as far as I know you cannot do server transfers on OVH US as you can do on OVH CA or EU. So this is probably also a blocked road.

Plus: I think OVH US also has a 30 days cancellation notice policy on server rentals, which is not the case on OVH CA or EU.

  • If you did order the Rise-LE-3 after you ordered the Rise-LE-4 and before you had the wrong disk on the -LE-4 swapped, you might talk them into refunding your LE-3 as you just ordered that one because the -4 was not delivered per spec and stock was running low.

With your skills*), you might get this settled as well with OVH US support.

*) don't forget about holidays or first snow or whatever to get a human touch in there.

  • After 24 hours my RISE-LE-4 is finally in intervention.... wonder if they're giving me some nice 7.68TB NVMes

  • Alright all. Time to get creative. How do I get them to throw some 2tb NVMEs into my perfectly good baguettes?

Script to read/write until the drives die? But then they'll probably replace with same size disks...

This is why we cannot have nice things :(

  • Nah, not about to destroy property for it lol.

Plus I'd imagine that they wipe the disks and catalog smart info before delivery.. it wouldn't be hard at all to figure out what's going on.

Ideally looking for something outside the box that is still ethically and morally sound.

  • OVH casually upgrades KS-STOR and other KS servers? Is there a list of possible configs?

I initiated via the live chat bubble that is available during business hours in the control panel. My approach to dealing with any customer support is to always be super kind. Here is the transcript with identifiable info removed:

    From: OVHcloud Support
(4:40:50 PM) *** Visitor joined the chat ***
(4:40:50 PM) Visitor : Wondering if it would be possible to request disk replacement on [server identifier]? The server was delivered with 4tb SSDs instead of 2tb NVMEs as advertised. Would really like to keep the server if we can get it to advertised spec.
(4:42:37 PM) Support: One moment while I check on this server
(4:42:47 PM) Me: Thank you sir. Hope you're doing well today ^^
(4:43:01 PM) Support: Do you have a lsblk or a screenshot of dd -h I can show the datacenter?
(4:43:25 PM) Support: & I'm doing alright thanks for asking! Looking forward to thanksgiving
(4:43:32 PM) Me: If you can bare with me for 2 mins I will get that for you.
(4:43:44 PM) Support: sure, no rush
    (4:44:39 PM) Me uploaded: lsblk.png
    Type: image/png
    Size: 20915
(4:45:05 PM) Me: There you go. We haven't done anything to the server yet. There's no data to be concerned about. The techs can go to down if they're willing.
(4:45:55 PM) Me: Or we're also fine with just a different unit if you have one thats to spec. Pretty flexible. The deal you all have advertised on these were really compelling.
(4:45:56 PM) Support: In that case will you authorize the datacenter to pull it immediately to see what happened?
(4:46:04 PM) Support: If so, I'll schedule that now
(4:46:10 PM) Me: Yeah they can have it all night.
(4:50:10 PM) Support: Alright, I've scheduled the intervention as soon as someone at the DC is available
(4:50:28 PM) Support: You'll get some automated tickets when the intervention starts, and when its concluded + technician notes
(4:50:36 PM) Me: I really appreciate it. Thank you so much!
(4:50:43 PM) Support: Happy to help, have a good afternoon
(4:50:56 PM) Me: Enjoy your Thanksgiving. I hope you get some time off :D

    ChatGPT (rewritten) version: LOL

    Hi there,

I’ve just received my server ([identifier]), but it was delivered with 4 TB SSDs, while the order listed 2 TB NVMe drives. I really appreciate the deal you offer, and I’d like to keep the server if we can get it to the advertised spec.

Would it be possible to swap the drives for the correct NVMe configuration, or alternatively, move me to a unit that matches the specs? I’m happy to provide any verification you need—attaching the lsblk output here.

The server hasn’t been used yet and contains no data, so the datacenter technicians can proceed as necessary. Please let me know if you need any further info or authorization for the intervention.

Thank you for your help! I appreciate your time and look forward to resolving this so I can keep this great server.

Hope you’re having a wonderful day!

Yeah I told Octave that "if u dont give me nice ssds i will shove a stale baguette ** **** ****" was actually quite nice coming from @TomasSystems, he said he'll do something since there was an effort.
