we have lost our data with frantech

Have you tried to backup your data on different network / provider? It can happen to anyone, example: OVH whole DC burned, so their data was lost.
Once upon the time, we have data replicated across Bigfoot Servers, HostedSimply, SnowVPS, TCNHosting.

Does XFS just throw a temper tantrum and go into a death spiral?
There's tons of discussion in the linux mailing lists about files suddenly being '0 bytes in length' some years ago. Metadata suddenly eating itself.
They've done a lot of work over the years to try to address it and claimed they fixed the 0 byte thing. My suspicion is the 0 byte thing is still going on, just now it doesn't leave the 0 byte file anymore.
Francisco
Sorry, ediaz,
I'm a bit late because I was crying for quite some time over you loosing unimportant data which you didn't care to backup and suffered, oh so terribly, from a provider who apologizes, instead of the usual canned BS responses from (other) providers, who reacted constructively, and who clearly and publicly told that he is willing to go an extra mile to help you.
So so, sad! I still can't stop crying over it.
It's obviously mature and wise to not only leave such a provider like @Francisco and to try to smear him. That'll teach him to treat even careless customers well! Oh no, wait, he already does that since many years ...
May you soon find another provider, one who actually is as crappy as you try to paint Francisco!
And now, fuck off!
Hey hey hey.
Please stop. This is no fault of his, this is our end.
I apologized, I take full responsibility, and we'll hopefully make it up to him and the others affected.
Francisco
So, you asked him to open this thread and to smear you?
I don't think so. And I also don't think that your response/reaction to him discussing his problems in private and constructively would have been any different than how you reacted here.
I stick to what I wrote but add some extra bonus points for you even trying to protect him.
No, but I can't fault him for being upset.
Just no need to bust his chops.
We'll do right by everyone affected.
Francisco
Nice to see that you finally got my point. Of course you'll continue to do right to customers affected by problems which are on your side. That's just Francisco.
P.S. Sorry, I edited my last post while you already were answering. No ill will, just me noting that I had to correct and complement it.
You should never rely on any VPS no matter how expensive it is, to not lose your data. Shared environments have much higher risk for data loss due to high density of users causing high IO and possibility of abuse, and exploits.
Nowadays backup vpses are super cheap and the free backup software is good unlike 20+ years ago.
Ha!
You can run xfs_metadump occasionally on the remaining machines to give you a fighting chance to restore if/when this happens in future
I really don't deal with it much anymore, but yeah, I see it. People will throw out drives because a filesystem has a whoops. XFS isn't something new to begin with either, it just likes to keep systems admins workin ya know. Good for productivity and disaster recovery.
I am going to demonstrate more education than you, I don't insult to anybody and try to get a conversation about it, I have issues with VM on frantech, but I don't attack to the person to anybody or Francisco I am recovery the systems on other provider as I said the data was not important. you are nobody to said to me where I can stay or said, good luck.
somebody here pretending a good guy once was a runner, ditching all the clients.
Time changes, and forgets.
Which software would you recommend for software RAID?
Mdadm is good. Zfs is good but has performance issues and eats a lot of ram.
Francisco
(a) where did I insult you?
(b) Considering what nowadays is considered "education" by many, for instance you, you might actually be right.
(c) I did not tell you what to do or to say. In fact I enjoyed (as in it makes me smirk) what you said, well, as far as one can get what you intended to say ...
(d) ripping me soooo hard (and so well educated!) made me cry a river again.
As I said maybe your bullying comments work well for you in other environments like your home or work. I think @Francisco has already told you to stop. Maybe at home they won't stop you, but since we're not in person I'm not going to feed your lack of education again, good luck.
ZFS, but only on bare-metal and only with a HBA card ( not a RAID card in HBA mode )
So, now you try to hide behind @Francisco, or in other words you try an argument by authority. Unfortunately though (a) you failed to notice that he didn't follow up, and (b) an attempt to use an argument by authority not only has zero power - as really educated people know because their professors made it abundantly clear to them early on - but effectively boils down to a lack of real education.
You also failed to show that your accusations are not utterly baseless by not showing where I did (allegedly) insult you.
And now fuck off.
Wow this got out of hand! Where can this end?

I asked the mods to just close it since it's just arguing at this point. It just turns into pages and pages of bickering about something unrelated to the topic.
Francisco
@host_c
Please continue, we will follow the argument
There's nothing on our end to argue about. We had an issue, we've worked to resolve it. We apologized.
Francisco
Same here, Stato, Avoro, Hetzner, Netcup. If you can find cheaper and better let me know except @host_c for storage offcourse unbeatable
