Answer within 24 hours is pretty good imo for a lowend vps.
Dont worry they are monitoring all their nodes and have staff in the datacenters 24/7
They arent OVH to burn their servers to ashes.
And imo they promised you a good solution without shittalking before.
This is my Netcup VPS 1000 ARM Nue after migrating new node finished
Even with Youtube running, CPU Steal below 1%
How ridiculous isn't it ?
Randomize picked VPS with Low CPU Usage and put it on the crowd nodes.
And after the customer made hard complaint they moved it to the less consumption node.
My CPU goes below 45% always when Youtube played and RAM as you could see, 50-60% of 8GB RAM
And this VPS was too expensive for me for trying out and tested how well ARM Linux compared to AMD EPYC or AMD Milan
)
But no options with Netcup. This is the lowest one.
My next target to test was AMD7950X
Because Layer.AE was perfect, unless with the XRDP Sound when playing Youtube, Sound choppy unless you make youtube screen ini MiniPlayer right down side
The last test with Layer.AE was 4vCore 8GB Ram with GB6 Score 8400-8500
Look at the VPS configuration in the RDS screenshot I have shared. Try doing Linux desktop in that configuration
For this configuration
I can even have YT video playing at 1440p in Windows RDP
Windows RDP with YT playing at 1080p
1 vCore / 2 GB
Probably because Linux browser packages don't come with hardware decoding enabled by default.
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Hardware_video_acceleration
ARMv8 with Linux Debian 12 did not leave so much choices
)
Only tried Chromium and Firefox ESR and it goes smoothly playing Youtube on 1080p and give up for more since my location to Netcup @ NUE very far. Latency goes up and down from 180ms to 200ms. Iperf test only 30-40Mbps , single tcp stream test only 15Mbps and no more higher than that
That's my limitation
)
If I stream to Singapore VPS, I am sure I will get 2160p in smooth and no laggy condition
But this is quite challenging
Will try again Linux Debian12 for Youtube on 1vCore 3GB Intel Xeon
Since I gave up on LayerAE for their 7950X 1vCore2GB for Youtube Streaming
I believed latency will be the worst enemy to stream higher than 1080p smoothly
mine to netcup 180-200ms with limitation in internet speed also
to layer.ae singapore is just 20ms
I don't get it for what purpose people use windows on a VPS. Dont get me wrong, nothing wrong with windows on a server but for what scenarios you are using windows on a server?
I can run Windows RDP as well as SQL database engine on VPS with 4 gb (or 2 gb with small database)
This use case not possible on Linux based OS.
And , for any use case, where users are running WINE on Linux OS. (There is one post in this thread itself by @riomartin)
It is far better to run apps natively on Windows Server OS and run Linux OS on nested VM using VMWare / Hyper V / Virtual Box
Wine for MT4 is more ease and lighter
when you load heavy indicators such as Volume for Spread Analysis bot lower chart and upper chart analysis
It will make my MT4 Windows hang for 5-10 minutes specially during news session in 1minutes or 5minutes timeframe
My recent homework was to run MT4 on ARM but failed.
Due to MT4 no longer supported by brokers and much of them already in 64bit apps
Anyway for the screenshot, enjoy
I launched youtube in 1080p under 1vcore 3GB RAM and 5GB Swap
No lagging, no choppy sound. Everything smooth like Windows Server
GB6 score on server just 570-590, very bad
Pushing to 1440p or 2160p must be done from office with 100Mbps and 300Mbps speed on dedicated line
from home and cafes are sucks ... since Amsterdam and Germany are very far and latency also higher.
And my curiosity on LayerAE _ AMD7950X still did not get any answers yet. Why 1vcore and 2GB with Swaps 5GB still not able to make Youtube Streaming goes smoothly. Must be with choppy sound and very laggy. Unless I changed the screen player into miniplayer. Either AMD_7950X are less threads in the host server or might be limitation on hardware for some kind of parameters. But for me, Linux running Wine for Windows apps much lighter than running Windows with native apps. Based on what I knew after running MT4 with heavy indicator.
Swap is not memory
@riomartin
Here is Windows RDP running on server based in South Asia and I am based in the USA
4 vCore / 8 GB memory
running YT video in 4k mode
compare that your Linux desktop running on 8gb NetCup VPS
I do agree their support is terrible but their root servers are great products.
Netcup Neoverse N1 6C8GB only had GB6 scores 950 singlecore and multicores 4300 max
)
Compare to 7600 variant, of course like Heaven and Hell
My LayerAE with 1c able to burst 2800 GB6 scores for SingleCore and 8300 for Multicores 4C
I bet yours will scores around 10K in GB6 Multicores
Of course Netcup is out of range for the game
)
That is why I am not considering Netcup is my winning solution for kind of VPS. but their fast network win every games
And yes, AMD 7950X has an unique exceptions.
I tried Windows Server and the sound running smoothly without choppy unlike I loaded with Debian 12 XRDP
Its a weird kind of issue I am having
AMD7950X with GB6 scores 2700 beaten by Intel XEON E5_2387W
Both 1Core, unless XEON has more 1GB compared to AMD of LayerAE
@riomartin
Running apps through WINE on Linux based OS will be always resource consuming as compared to running natively on Windows Server OS
I will let you google for the cause and reasons.
I had done tons of trials and errors Buddy
since Cheapwindowsvps still offers Windows VPS only back in 2015/2016. That's the first time I put my MT4 in Windows VPS, Then I moved to Windows Servers, try Contabo with their expensive Windows Servers License also. But as I moved to Linux Debian, all changed. My MT4 never had to waited long enough as I loaded in Windows Server
Maybe if I open chart with empty blank chart without indicators it wont make an issue of getting like mt4 stop responding.
And second, as my last screenshot, if I load Youtube and stream from Native app Firefox-ESR under Debian 12 xfce it wont get as smooth as Edge with Wine loaded. And I am not yet into the game of Mac M version. Windows is just for fun, the future might be having Windows not as native but on the top of Virtualization.
And I had compared everything.
I doubt if anyone has done even 50% of tests done by me on LET with respect to testing Windows Server based VPS.
Feel free to ask around. 😀
I don’t recommend this provider.
if you use wine on linux vps, especially on low end, there is a strong chance your VPS will be limited. Check with @rsk
I program in Windows for my work and has been doing for many decades. This includes working in financial institutions ranked within top 5 worldwide rankings.
I highly doubt it. If I am not wrong, you were having difficulty even installing the OS on a premium provider’s panel.
— programming in Windows OS since NT days
Thank you for your sacrifice
I got international job , thanks for this “sacrifice”
VPS don't have dedicated GPU so hardware decoding isn't possible, as there is no hardware to begin with.
It is only possible to have hardware decoding on dedicated servers with iGPU.
Why are you guys watching compressed 1080p/4K YouTube via compressed and very blocky VNC/RDP with framedrops?
Is it too good quality to watch it directly on your machine and you need completely destroyed 1080p/4K streams?
I think (and hope) it’s like their way of benchmarking it.
Exactly, this is just a test to demonstrate Windows RDP computing benchmark.
If I have to watch YT video, I will simply create a VPN, for use case, where certain videos are region specific and not available in other regions.
I am seeing yours more make sense to me
)
and I never thought anything about GPU. This parameter would be the major impact for the issue I am facing on the VPS
My purpose is to bring the lightest thin device with you on mobile position, without thinking to bring heavy and bulky one like tablet or thin laptops above 1kg
The Cheap Provider you did not recommend,
I played Youtube under Debian 12 + Xfce4 + Wine + Edge on their $3 without any issues
So yeah, what else I should complaint ?
