    Hi there

So I purchased one of the octopus machines and it came with a pretty broken Debian 12 template. I attempted to self install Debian 12 Net install and then couldn't install the bootloader.

I ended up having to use your Ubuntu 22 template and then doing many do-release-upgrades

The Debian 12 template was missing key components such as gpg, didn't even have sudo.

In addition my VM failed to create and I gave it over night when I ordered it. I had to re-install with the broken Debian 12 template which is where I noticed everything.

My issue is sorted but I thought I'd share some feedback.

    Thanks.

Some still valid offers at Stacksocial:

All these were quite tested around here so maybe someone is interested.

While i understand the problems around gpg (probably needed for apt to work) sudo has to my best knowledge never been a part of a Debian's minimal install. Disabled root + sudo is pretty much an Ubuntu thing. Having the same setup on Debian is about one invocation of apt-get install sudo and probably usermod -L root (not 100% that's the right approach - i don't disable my root account - but going by the man page it seems reasonable) away though.

When installing Debian from CD-ROM, if you keep the root password empty, you would get:

    • root account disabled
    • sudo installed
    • user account created during installation has sudo group membership

Interesting. So somewhere over the years they've made it an option. Admittedly it's been a while since i've installed an actual Debian (all my systems are pretty much ISO installs as i hate templates with a passion - it seems there's always something stupid about them) but i figure if the mothership does it derivatives will probably too. Not that i'd ever use it but having options is a good thing in my book.

Editing the sshd-config file and change the "PermitRootLogin" line value to "prohibit-password" option.

one can not login with root over ssh, even if password is enabled. It can be done only with ssh keys.

Great advise, however put the locally changed options in sshd_config.d/. Makes updates to SSH cleaner.

Nope. I don't care about the rainbow unicorn logo of LGBTQIA+ choices of some people. It is their choice and that's about it, no other comments needed (whether it is their celebration month or not).

What I want in LET is more low-end offers for cloud servers and storage, even lifetimes.

Sorry I mean unicorn as in impossible low-end offers, but yes I completely agree with MORE deals

To be honest, I don't think we will see more crazy offers. It is weekend, 4th of July was two days ago, and the thread has slowed down on its hype.

EDIT: If I were a moderator, I would call it: /thread. 4th of July was a success, even during recession and political turmoil.

True, though Ian and a few mentioned they might want to post something so just thinking to extend it a little tiny bit longer

I still feel a bit weird on when is recession and is it happening already even, and for some reason the feeling of inflation has been going on crazy.
