Coooool spec! But there are many questions to ask.
What can we get other than shell?
How many processes can we keep running?
Can we host websites?
Can we use databases?
Can we have ports reserved?
What's the bandwidth usage limit?
What's the CPU usage limit?
does this matter if you are just hosting your personal site dude?
Hi @cngeeks!
Looks like you might have to start from the shell. Where you go from there is mostly up to you.
About 32.
Why not? Although, with Debian sid and RAID 0, the server might not be everyone's most favored set up for a long running, stable platform. Also, please note that "non-commercial" use is specified in the Terms of Service. At least for testing, though, the server is perfect!
Why not?
Why not?
I don't know for sure. I've heard mention of numbers ranging from about 200 TB/month to about 330 TB/month.
It's a dedicated, bare metal server, so 100%.
For me, MetalVPS is mostly an educational project these days. I learn from the MetalVPS Neighbors who also are using our servers.
Originally, I had imagined that a few servers might sustain a small business with a profit of $1,000 per month. However, making a profit in Low End hosting seems to require hundreds if not thousands of customers using highly loaded servers. So far, MetalVPS usually has just three or five or ten customers per server. I'm grateful to them for teaching me!
@cngeeks Hope this extra bit of explanation is helpful. Best wishes!
Maybe he's just trying to make sure that he stays within the rules?
Nice project, but there is one question about the "Flexible pricing"
So can u give us more details about the pricing?
@Franzkafka What would work for you?
Anybody with mad skillz interested in trying to help me set up
plus maybe either or both of
and
?
Or, might anybody want to mess with something more or less like https://terminal.shop ?
Which apparently uses Golang libraries Bubbletea and Wish, from Charm ? See also
beginning around 31:30.
Maybe 2$/m or below.I may idle this server for now, won't spend two much on it
need some info on pricing but this looks interesting NGL
Here's another yabs, this time from inside a chroot. Do you see any virtualization overhead?
Why not save the $2 per month for now? You would be very welcome to come back when you want to do something instead of just idling!
What info on pricing do you need?
how much would it cost for a month > @Not_Oles said:
First time seeing this GB6 score, what a beast!
@Not_Oles nailed it. It's always nice to know the boundary beforehand. This is also someone else may want to make clear.
@duckeeyuck what would you do with such a beast?
I don't see GPU info on the server but i think text-generation-webui works with CPU-only as well.
The other two cli projects are pretty straightforward though. Not a big deal.
well, if you use your two neurons, it says "shell account", use it as a shell, obviously you got abusive intentions
nah. no one asks for limitation before the actual abuse.
after stimulating my laggy 'neurons', text-generation-webui and other cool stuff turns out not 'shell' projects obviously. and how exactly can anyone just 'use it as a shell' purely today? coding, building, and idling ... without touching port, cloud or maybe ducky ...
Thanks for asking!
I will tell you everything I know about the pricing:
I pay the server vendor โฌ84.00 per month. That's about US$90.05.
I also paid a โฌ39.00 one time set up fee to the server vendor.
It is great fun for me to share servers with Low End community members! I enjoy the discussions here as well as our many friends here. I learn a lot here!
The OP kindly requests you to make an offer which works for you. So please tell us about your use case and about the price which would work for you. Or, if you want more privacy, please feel free to send me an email or a PM.
Thanks again!
I like the way you think! It interests me especially that you were thinking about what other people might want to know.
What you are working on? Do you have a website?
There is an integrated GPU. I need to learn more about how it works.
Here's something interesting that I can see:
and the same listing also shows up from inside a chroot:
Intel has some interesting command line tools which I need to learn about. For example, please see https://github.com/intel/xpumanager/blob/master/doc/CLI_user_guide.md#intelr-xpu-manager-command-line-interface-main-features
Anybody want to help me learn a little about Intel and other cool graphics command line tools?
@Not_Oles
Thanks for yet another great initiative.
Can I use this server to install SQL Server 2022 Developer Edition (Linux) and use for example tutorial for advanced SQL with Windows functions?
I will keep the project open source, but database could end up taking 400 to 500 GB. Since this server has NVMe storage and damn fast cpu, this project can help folks with data engineering goals.
What are your thoughts?
Thanks and best regards
I'm looking forward to trying them!
Maybe @cngeeks might have been asking, "What would you do with the shell on a powerful server?"
idling
Thanks for your kind words!
That's a really tough question!
No problem with 500 GB.
Thanks for asking about my thoughts. I'm an old, retired guy now. Formerly I used software from certain big companies because literally everyone with whom I needed to interact professionally was using their software. Repeatedly, when I upgraded equipment, I had to pay again and again for software which had been working fine. Lucky for me, I now can use fully free GPL, BSD, MIT, Apache, and Public Domain software. Nevertheless I do appreciate that many others are in situations similar to where I formerly worked.
It's great that you want to keep your project open source. Please help me understand the goal of your free project. Is the goal of your free project to make software which interacts with non-free software that is required for your free project to fully accomplish its larger purpose?
Best wishes to you!
Thanks again for posting here!
Tom
Nice vintage offer. Just tested my sdf.org, and it still works.
i'm working on some little projects like personal site, personal image hosting, alist, uptime monitor and etc.
