It renames the files apparently but you can choose the template as to how to organise them. For example I chose to organise them as YYYY/MM/file.ext
Do you mean RAID 0+1? All 4 in mode 1 sounds a bit too much IMO.
Thanks, I appreciate
For now I set this up and will keep it for a while, see how the mobile upload works and then decide if to continue paying for 2TB of iCloud storage.
I prefer keeping this stuff on a server outside my home
Sure, you can if you use xpenology and easy to setup this inside proxmox VM

I run https://github.com/icloud-photos-downloader/icloud_photos_downloader in the background on my family's account for the photos backups, then having immich on all phones - purging needs to be done manually.
Also, for Nextcould I recommend to check out memories - https://github.com/pulsejet/memories
Why don't you just have a Photo Library synced with iCloud?
@vitobotta think of all the people you inspire who may not comment on the threads
I really enjoy them.
So, i manage all phone and photo needs of my family. When my wife's drive space was almost full I decided to move all the family's photos to nextcloud and thought to myself why shud i pay for google's space when i have a ton of idling servers lying around. I took all the data down from google takeout, upload to nextcloud instance was easy. Used an epyc for code files and nfs cached folder for data.
Started immediately realizing problems with uploaded video files, when it took wife forever to play them on the nextcloud app. I had to setup an automatic file conversion for video so nextcloud cud successfully stream videos. But even then the system was unreliable. The family started complaining about nextcloud being dull and boring since unlike google photos it was not AI generating random albums that google has really gotten good over the last few years.
Eventually I bit the bullet and paid for the google one subscription, pretty cheap really. Now, nextcloud apps in the background keep backing up photos but it is just that, a backup solution and nothing more. Plus i often find terrible clashes in logs where nextcloud enters infinite upload loops trying to upload same files over and over again.
Thanks for the kind words

Two reasons:
1. Kids that randomly delete photos when they get the phone.
2. My parents never delete photos, so they end up using up all the iCloud space. They also don't remember to use immich that often - I back it up and sync it over to an external directory on immich.
I am one of those people. I do enjoy your threads and I think people like you should be encouraged and not vilified.
Keep them coming...
This modification of Nextcloud looks great.
Do you share the same library with them?
Thanks ❤️
Looks interesting and I might give it a try if I am running into problems with Immich. Search with Immich is a bit weird
@raza19 thats why I switched to seafile and sftpgo for basic webdav based backups. Nextcloud is just way too much work.

No, but they do get their hands on the grandparent's devices, and ours.
