You've never seen one this big before

Have you ever wondered what 69TB of raw hard disk feels like?

Now's your chance. @emgh has us all hopped up on vodka redbulls and forced us to run a few entirely unsustainable deals.

What: We have a few hundred TB of unused space across quite a few nodes on our very first iteration of our amazing storage VPS lineup. The first iterations are battle-tested, but they lack a lot of the updates we've rolled into the product since. For example, there is no SSD-caching. You're limited to 16TB per disk, so we won't go over 16TB for any single addon HDD. In general: they suck compared to our actual storage VMs. You're getting access to a shared RAID-6 HDD array with a bit of SSD OS space. Feel like you might open tickets complaining about IO, disk bandwidth, etc? Don't bid. These are not for you. Do you just need somewhere to get your 3rd back-up spot on the extreme cheap? Maybe store some linux isos for personal use? Sure. Remember though: our complete ToS and AUP apply to anything on our infrastructure and network.

Why: Despite the improvements in the line-up, many of our customers were happy to stay where they are and did not want to go through the hassle of a migration or give up bonuses they have for remaining on the older lineup. We'll honor those wishes for as long as they want to stay with us, but we no longer sell space on these servers and have not for close to a year. That means we have space that is already up, not monetized, and would not be a standard stocked or supported product. Here's your chance to get something that is truly unsustainable. Come at me @Calin.

How: We have at least 3 configurations ready to go. We're going to run these auction style, with bids starting at $1/mo. The length of the auction will be posted with the server specs.

All bids start @ $1/mo and deals will be monthly recurring!

We're going to start with this prime specimen:

VM-U31:

  • 26 vCPU
  • 30GB RAM
  • 200GB SSD
  • 69TB HDD
  • 72TB Bandwidth @ 1Gbps

FREEEE STUFF!

One lucky alpha male that posts in this thread is going to win this, for free, for a year:

VM-U33:

  • 16 vCPU
  • 69GB RAM
  • 100GB SSD
  • 10TB HDD
  • 20TB Bandwidth @ 1Gbps

A few lucky gentlemen will also win a combo prize: a Crunchbits t-shirt & at least 2 cans of MANGILLA (...cough @user123 ). On us. Delivered anywhere in the world we can reasonably deliver it.

How do you enter for freebies? TWO REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Just post in here. A joke. Funny meme. Something. Anything. Follow forum rules to not spam, but the more you post the more chances you have to win.
  2. When I draw the winners for this (at the very end of the auctions), you have to also be in our Discord. This is going to be strictly enforced. If you join after I announce the winner, we'll draw a new winner and @FatGrizzly will mock you.

The more views and comments the thread gets, the more encouraged we will be to add ridiculous configurations all the way through Cyber Monday.

    Additional terms:
While these are hosted and provided in the same datacenter and chassis as our normal storage VM's, these do not have SSD-caching and are limited to 16TB per add-on disk. If your server has >16TB of HDD, it will be added in 16TB chunks until we provision the total promised space. I.e.:
    72TB HDD
    /dev/sdb = 16T
    /dev/sbc = 16T
    /dev/sdd = 16T
    /dev/sde = 16T
    /dev/sdf = 8T

These are manually provisioned packages and a unique and fun offering. You will have to be patient, we will make sure you understand what you're buying, and there are no guarantees or promises of speed/performance (network, disk, cpu, etc).

We additionally reserve the right to refuse the high bidder if we feel there is a risk to our business operations (financial, network, legal, or anything not explicitly listed) and will honor the next highest bidder or re-list the VM if there isn't one.

First month move-in bandwidth allowance: 3X your normal monthly bandwidth to help you get settled.
