he likes to play with mud, let him.
a 24-48 hour prior email to me would have helped.
I'm not against migrations. but sudden migration is big no-no.
We don't refresh browser to read emails every hour. I check once in morning or once at night.
I was wondering why my site was not working and thought it might be cloudflare.
but after clicking LET icon on browser.. then I came to know about this sudden migration and downtime.
anyways, better its migrated away from dedipath.
I'm not (and never was) a customer of EthernetServers, but in general, I agree that such sudden/emergency migrations are not looked upon favorably but something tells me that their assets were at stake.
This migration was probably something they needed to decide promptly, and crucially, as delaying it could've put them in a far worse position, with even greater challenges to face.
FYI, I'm just speculating here and thinking out loud ✌️
dedipath at that point looked like the lights would go out anytime, so it makes sense to migrate pronto vs entire data loss.
tough decision to make and you cant make everyone happy.
The above statement surprises me because:
1. Nowadays we can easily receive emails to our cell phones.
2. How come somebody leasing servers, hosting sites, etc to check his email only once per day?!
Before I enter hosting business, back in 2000s, I was checking my email regularly every day. Am I the only one?
Probably got tired of receiving of all the DDoS attack notifications. Their phone was acting too much like a hitachi magic wand
Why not wait for the next DC downtime or DC going out of business? It’s an unannounced migration either way
Maybe they know something (what we sadly no) or have more information about the background, and worry about the stability, future.
I have some small services (VPS) from DediPath too directly, and when I read the comments on LET, I worry a little about them.
Like end of the billing period? (new month)

Has the migration been completed? I noticed that the migration announcement has been taken down, but the IP address doesn't seem to have gone through a change, contrary to my earlier memory. I was thought an IP change would happen yesterday.
Some of my VPS had a IP change, while others haven't changed IP.
Now it's a pain to identify which ones needs the software fixed due to IP change. @EthernetServers insights please.
What's your favorite outfit for playing in the mud?
I also want to know the result of the matter, because not all ips of my vps have changed.
Actually these statements should not be a surprise to Web Host(s) on LET who does not checks support emails on Weekends and Holidays and keep customer waiting for 2-3 days for the first reply. Improving your business practices will encourage customer to check emails on their cell phones often throught the day!
That's not me you describe. I always reply on weekends and holidays.
Current situation:
As of this moment in time, everyone should be online.
The process has been temporarily halted whilst SolusVM release software updates to correct some important migration bugs that were found:
a white tshirt and some pants i guess
Who washes the white shirt?
Last time I went mudding in a white shirt, I had to bleach the shirt for 48 hours before it turned white again.
you dont
you dye it in the mud
So you actually want a tan shirt?
I have a system that has been migrated and according to the emergency status page the migration for it is done, but where it had two IP4 addresses, now it only has one. Is that going to going to be remedied at some point?
Probably best to open a ticket.
Perhaps so. I was trying to avoid burdening the provider as suggested that non-critical tickets be avoided at this time, This is not an urgent issue for me so I'll hold off on filling the ticket queue at this time.
Most appreciated, but right now there's no tickets awaiting reply, so feel free
I smell some cheap offer coming after migration.
why not?
is ipv6 working now?
It will be available very shortly. Right now, the priority is getting everyone migrated and online as quickly as possible.
Seems things have calmed down a bit
KUDOS to George for taking decisive action!!!
I say that even though I have been in limbo for two weeks...
(OLD IP is still working, but I suspended my DNS replication since it will break when migrated...)
The UPSTREAM has had FREQUENT and intermittent connection failures over the last month or two. ETHERNETSERVERS (George) has been one of the few reliable and affordable providers and has always been able to resolve small problems quickly and courteously. I am quite sure he/they had to take this drastic step because the upstream was unable/unwilling to resolve the issue...
THUS, IMHO this emergency migration is a good thing for all (most?) clients. My only complaint (not worth a ticket) is the lengthy wait without eMail/update... (Must login to the status page to see - a list of those new node names...
cheers/j
PS: George, time permitting, give a bit of a timeline - please, thank you.
... and don't forget about IPv6 :P
