18 months with my lifetime root server, and I couldn't be happier. I think I am roughly at a break-even point right now. They do have their downtime, and I now have 50 EUR in "we're sorry" vouchers. For self-hosted stuff, the performance/cost ratio is great.

Yeah, really happy customer here, too :) Even got one of their lifetime webhosting plans (Plesk is nice). Might grab another lifetime vps on bf

Also got like 50€ credit haha. If a friend needs a Gameserver or we play some new game, and I haven't got a vps setup with their inhouse gs panel, I can just spin up a free game server for a couple of weeks while we're playing the game, so also nice.

Is the downtime long? Is there downtime a couple times a year?
I've seen a lot of negative comments about their servers

There's definitely multiple downtimes per year, but it's never been an issue for my "hobby projects".

    See ZAP lifetime products: https://hetrixtools.com/r/1e8230782d091518530187a38c70bfa5/

To be fair, I sometimes also reinstall servers, or have them shut down on purpose without marking these events in Hetrix, so this data is not as reliable as someone running 24/7 production there.

    Many times?
    That sounds horrible.
Is the downtime long? A week or half a month?

I can give you a precise number: 99.7358% uptime since 2023-07-20. This includes network, system uptime on their side as well as me being an idiot sometimes.

    That's acceptable.
Do they have their own server room?

Check hetrix, but as I said.. probably @sgheghele stats are more valid

  • @zhuye said: Do they have their own server room?

I don't think they own an entire datacenter, but they claim to own their own space in Germany and, apparently, in Finland. I use them in Germany and they have their own network, https://bgp.he.net/AS30823. The rest is PsychZ. See more here https://zap-hosting.com/en/server-hosting/ (scroll down to Locations)

  • If someone is imprisoned for more than 3 months and is unable to access the internet, can they provide proof of incarceration to reclaim their server after release?

  • Or, if someone is in an accident, such as a car crash, and remains in a coma for 3 months, can they use hospital records as proof to recover their server after regaining consciousness?

  • NO REAL LIFETIME SERVERS!

That's why judges and courts exist. They'll have to decide that.

  • They must be loosing so much money on the lifetime VPS's

Or maybe not? Technically, we know it must yield negative income, but somehow they're sticking at it. Maybe too many people don't set up recurring Google Calender reminders and don't check their emails, so their product expires? Maybe they're profiting from an influx of customers (even if only lifetime) and that's what they want right now? Surely, they're not offering it, because they're a no-profit, so they are profiting from it some way. Otherwhise this wouldn't be offered for long. They've got lots of customers with recurring contracts, though. So that's a solid base + Cash Injections from lifetime for investments.

  • Currently lifetime lxc is 35% off until 12:00

That's why at some point, I stopped collecting them. If I wanna buy monthly/yearly products I shop at LE. I need lifetimes from ZAP.

Yup, they're quick to respond. Don't think it's possible, but why not ask :D

  • Last time i asked to change my email, they asked for ID (drivers license, passport all that stuff). If they do allow transfers, i think they would ask for that.

Sitting on 4 lifetime vps here, but in case you haven't bought in yet, maybe now's the time, before lifetime prices are increased or may even be discontinued in face of the hw market changes (cf.
Hetzner, OVH and other price increases).

  • My lifetime VPS keeps on having out of memory issue with the Debian image they have provide as an image.

Iirc some of their images are bugged. Just boot netboot.xyz and install from scratch.

Maybe you are on a memory-constrained node and getting harmed by their overselling. I know I am with one of mine (this server role: to idle). My 'free -h' showed 1.2Gi total (of 3.8Gi that should be there) when I got into it to verify the alert. Could not even do apt-get install htop because there was no memory to be taken back. I just disabled my zabbix alert for that idle node.

So if you see that it is total memory that is limiting you, on their panel you can disable memory ballooning. power off. power on again. And you should now have more memory (or swap as memory, who knows).
