Never buy from them. Downtimes, bad support and they cancel your lifetime server if you don't use the for a while

They literally ask you to login to the VPS control panel from time to time. When you purchase a lifetime product, you agree to it. Also, you'll get several notifications via email to do so, so you don't even need to put some sort of calendar alert.

Although I had some initial issues with them in their Finland location and their O.S images, they fixed it after a while, and their support, whilst being basically unable to help, tried their best to help me.

I think BF were the best sales, and their coupons rarely apply to lifetime offers, so BF is your best bet. They even had smth like 40-50% off for lifetime vps iirc.

ZAP now sends you emails to remind you to log in to keep your service active (even with a link to it; you just have to click it). You can even re-activate it up to 4 weeks after suspension. I simply got a recurring Google Calender reminder that reminds me every 3 months to log in. It isn't that hard, really.

Today I setup a CS:CZ server and couldn't connect. Contacted live chat and they immediately solved the issue as CS:CZ is too old to support hostname:port, so I had to connect ip:port.
ZAP support agent even hopped onto my server and played a round with me lol :D

You agree to it when purchasing, I don't see it being a big deal since there's clearly some people that won't be using them in like 10 years.

As for what I've heard, you get several emails before your service is suspended, and then you have some grace time to contact support and resume it again.

They're also based in Germany, EU, so dunno how GDPR laws apply to lifetime products when the customer hasn't logged in for years whilst Zap still storing that customer's data.

I think it's important to remember nobody needs to choose them. I, and I assume this goes for other LE members that chose them as well, did so, because we saw value in the offers provided. It checks out for my use case, that doesn't mean it has to work for everyone else. I'm sure, most of the people who ordered a lifetime product from them tried one of their prepaid monthly products first to evaluate performance, or/and did their own research on the company. Being from Germany, and growing up with Minecraft/CS servers, I sort of grew up with the most big prepaid gameserver providers back then, like Nitrado, G-Portal, Gamed, 4Net, etc. I will acknowledge that back then, ZAP Hosting was never known for being a premium brand, and many people complained about performance. I still wouldn't consider them a premium host today, either. That doesn't mean their services can't be used for hobby projects, or certain use cases where no high-end performance is required. I do acknowledge that they are still around and going strong today, judging from Income statements on Northdata and the numbers regarding newly purchased/total number of servers, if that is to be trusted.
What's more, I have also had great experience with their support staff, and since live chat has been introduced, it's even quicker. They seem to have hired international support staff (English support) as well now, so maybe also growing more internationally. Also ticket respond times are usually really fast, and Discord staff is also helpful.

Sure, it's not all sun and rainbows, the OS templates for KVM are horribly outdated (though they're apparently working on that in the background), my Minecraft Lifetime gameserver gets occasionally powered off and then not powered on again, but that's probably because I'm idling it since about a year and basically nobody has logged on since. Whenever I want to actively use it again, I pop a ticket and it's swiftely migrated to a new host system where it stays online and performs well. My guess is, they move idling/abandoned mc servers on one overloaded host system (idle grave sort of), until you tell them you want to actually use the server again. Ofc, this shouldn't happen, but then again there must be so many idling servers with 0 players for years that it's fair game. My lifetime VPS, on the other hand, are chugging along fine so far, and, in contrast to lifetime gameserver, are almost never down or performing bad, aside from maintenance and recent raid failure (which can happen to any host).
Updating Debian 10 to 11 doesn't take long either. All in all, I'm happy with what I've got. Heck, some people even bought lifetime dedicated servers with them.

In the end, it comes down to your individual use case and preference. What may work for others, may not work for you. If all that's keeping you from signing up is the inactivity rule, then maybe just set a repeating google calender reminder (what I did), or just wait for one of their reminder emails to pop into your mailbox and click on the dashboard link directly linking to the product in question. I don't see this as much of a hassle at all. I use Google Calender a lot in daily life, and need to sort/schedule lots of stuff for uni. If all it takes to keep the lifetime server is clicking on a link every once in a while, that's good for me.
Even if you miss all the email reminders, I'd assume you'd have a monitor running for your server if it's of any importance to you, which would notify you if your server was powered of (due to suspension), which would give you 4 weeks to get in touch with them.

So u accusing me of shilling now? I have this credit here sitting idling, since I don't use any of their monthly VPSs, only have lifetime (oh, and if you didn't know, you can't use this for any sort of lifetime product purchase or upgrade!)

Would love to see any sort of proof of your experience, or perhaps you're mad cause you lost a lifetime product because... (let's keep it as you didn't make attention to the 1000 emails you got from them, or maybe you're one of those abusers that got terminated?)

I kind of hate, how the credits they give you for downtime can't be used for the product that was affected (i.e. lifetime). I'm also not sure how "legal" that would be, since there has been sort of a law in Germany that allows you to pay out any prepaid balance (for prepaid mobile contracts), so maybe you could even request a payout, legally.
I'm also sitting on 32€ unusable credit. Although I recently used it to see how cs:cz worked, before remembering I could setup gameserver panel on my lifetime kvm.

At this point I only use this credit to deploy test VMs or prove something to their support team (via deploying a VM too xD), it's quite sad that even if you top up your account with PayPal/CC/... you still cannot use that credit for lifetime stuff.

I got downtime compensations too, and well, it's still sitting right there. I used to farm the monday Zap codes in Twitter back in the day, but I just got bored of it, since I can't do shit with the credit.

I suppose you could fight for a payout, and perhaps they give it to you if that specific balance does not come from vouchers, but if it does, then not sure. Either way, I still need to find a provider that does give you money when it's their fault, even if (in my situation and yours) we can't use it for anything.

At the same time I don't want their company to die, and considering the amount of credit I have from just claiming random vouchers I got from emails, I can't imagine the amount of $$$ some people may have from farming from their socials, asking support, participating in their events, ...

All of them are Openvz for 5 Years.
Pretty decent, you even get fair compensation for downtimes (I rarely had them).. Every Monday they drop coupon codes for free €2 credit. Sadly they don't have IPv6. Still good for Linux VMs... I won't suggest them for Windows VMs.

I neither said zap hosting is good or bad.

My previous post had nothing to do with zap hosting to be honest. It was more towards your behaviour where the way you are pushing, it seems like you are paid by them.

Even Zap hosting may get emabarassed because when someone pushes hard sells like this way, it automatically brings questions in the mind of the person in front regardless how good the original service may be.

I didn't push any sells, I literally told my experience and that's it :)
This is just a discussion thread, not a sales thread either.

    That's fine but....

Thank you, they don't want you either.

this doesn't seem like experience. Rather it is similar to reaction when someone on a payroll fails to push the given agenda given to him by his employee.

I wouldn't want an MJJ as my customer tbh.

You can call me whatever, it's just my opinion :)
You can read more of my "employee" opinions in the OGF (e.g here or here)

20€ Code for Cashbox due to fire in DE location:
    FIRERUININGFUN

Ofc, not usable for lifetime products or domains as usual. So only for people who wanna pay for recurring products.

    Original post:

On 19/11/2024 a fire in a power substation caused a regional power outage which affected our Frankfurt / Eygelshoven datacenter. This resulted in a high volume of servers and our website becoming unavailable for a period of time. Both the fire and power in the region were restored within the span of a few hours.

Unfortunately, we remotely identified various problems caused by the sudden power outage, leading to a team being dispatched to the server location. Our on-site team was able to progress and resolve the outstanding problems in due time, restoring remaining server functionality. We are still investigating this incident and have already started to perform necessary changes to avoid similar incidents like this in the future.

We provide our most sincere apologies for any inconveniences this downtime may have caused. We would like to offer affected customers a €20 voucher in compensation. Redeem voucher code: FIRERUININGFUN in your cashbox to make use of this compensation.

Thank you for your patience, continued support and trust.

  • 18 months with my lifetime root server, and I couldn't be happier. I think I am roughly at a break-even point right now. They do have their downtime, and I now have 50 EUR in "we're sorry" vouchers. For self-hosted stuff, the performance/cost ratio is great.

    Thanked by 3Ympker Frameworks zGato
