AdvinServers usa-lax outage

I bought a server 24 hours ago, and there is no network at all despite the server is running (Can log into VM in VNC). Critical ticket opened with no response for basically a whole day. Are all advinservers locations down, or is it just Los Angeles?

So far, not great : /. I guess that justifies the price

I absolutely cannot recommend AdvinServers as well. My data contents in there got corrupted after one of their unscheduled maintenances. I stopped using it ever since then

”Our technical support and sales department will be temporarily delayed until Friday, March 31st. If you are having an issue, your service will be extended or you can open a ticket in the Critical Issues department which runs regardless of closing.”

”technical support department”, ”sales department”, ”critical issues department” wtf, no way there’s even 3 full-time staff members.

Basically every paragraph on their multi-million dollar website tries to fool me into beliving the big three clouds are actually AWS, GCP, and Advin Servers. It’s written like someone from a minecraft forum selling middleman services trying to write what they believe a lawyer would write like.

I never talk shit about community loved providers since I’m fully aware of backlash but c’mon, it’s just way too much.

Someone don’t tell ”them” and there’ll soon be more departments than Walmart.

Wow. Glad I haven't gotten a chance to deploy anything on there yet. How often do "unscheduled maintenances" occur?

I don't know if this is too harsh, but right now I'm sort of convinced that advinservers is basically a one-man operation trying cover multiple locations and god knows what is going on. I've heard from others that their server has been down since Wednesday (!) and no replies to tickets either.

I found the windows templates @ Advin are missing DNS configuration. I had an instance at Eygelshoven (20gbps then 1-2gbps changes made) i found the network was restricted to 50mbps in one or both directions. Several days is common wait times on tickets in my experiance. I gave up after a couple weeks of partial fixes

This will be wrong, because they might have some services outside of their AS but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt throughout my calculations:

    AS: https://ipinfo.io/AS206216
    IPs: 2,560

Let’s say average revenue per IP is $8, probably way less, but let’s.

    That’s $20,480 a month.

Let’s say their profit is 30 % (again, surely well less since they themselves say it’s for BETA testing and the prices are meant to reflect that, but let’s).

    That’s $6,144 a month.

Enough to pay 1 guy after taxes, sure.

Enough to pay hundreds of departments and whatever? No.

  • Another thing I just noticed. Advin doesn't seem to be using a licensed whmcs panel.

    hmmm....

That should be taken with a huge load of salt though.

I’m not one to defend ”them” here, but WHMCS is known to have their checking module be shit and not do anything about it.

Last thing I heard you need to manually login to WHMCS regurarely for it to work.

Very weird it’s still not solved.

Oh dear. Is eygelshoven still online right now, or have you ran away from advin long before?

Oh, well let's just hope that they don't have to face some sort of trouble from whmcs...

Amsterdam location/network seemed to be bad last night too (8PM-8AM UTC), up to 5.5 second response time. Only started monitoring it a few days ago, hope it hasn't been doing this often

My KVM High memory in Amsterdam is down since 29 march.
No way to contact Advin - tried ticket (opened it of course in "critical issue" department ;)), forum, SMS number mentioned on www etc. Already restored backups elsewhere, but server is prepaid for 3 months.

@rdes said: "critical issue" department ;)

I think that department is currently on strike due to the big board of directors on Advin Servers taking too much profit and leaving none to the department of critical issues.

I'd recommend contacting the "Special Critical Issues Department" that is handeled by a special team of investigative technical specialists focused on problem-solvning in case the normal "Critical Issues Department" can't solve your issue.

They're, just like the other departments, back when Advin is back.

It's just the mobile UI for UptimeRobot. To be fair it's back to being good now (300ms avg) as it had been for the 3 days before so I'm not going to jump ship yet but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it :p

My service for the whole of march . I didint undertstand why every test including traceroute resolved in london but was assured it was a wrong

Always amuses me that people expect STELLAR , UNINTERRUPTED service when they are paying peanuts. Like you can't expect Azure/AWS with HA quality when you are paying budget or cheap. Just enjoy what you have and plan accordingly.

  • rdesrdes Member

@Hxxx You suggest that expecting reply for ticket after 5 days of dowtime (and counting) is too much?
I have this service from 4 months, and already had one complete data loss because after few node restarts my whole disk vanished (seems to some proxmox problem) and now there's 5 days outage and counting...

Mine was also tested against London... I worry less about where it was tested against, I run my own iperf tests on VPS, this one is decent to where I live (Asia) but not stellar. The India and Tokyo locations perform better for me (but much less HD space)

Since it’s the High Memory line up you did agree that Advin could have as much unexpected shutdowns, reboots, etc, without any SLA (it’s on the kvm high memory services upon buying).

I’m not defending Advin tor this but you’re paying $0.25/GB for the High Memory VPS service, so you shouldn’t expect much.

I am not affiliated with Advin Servers, I’ve just been there from when @Advin started it

Advin is a team of 2 people. I have offered to help with tickets if Advin wanted, which was declined because he wanted to pay for the time and I said I’d do it free.

  • I have always just used Advin for anything non production due to the issues, anything you need to use for production run it on a service that’s not $0.25-0.5/GB as you’re not going to get the best uptime or support.

Mine isn't the high memory beta line up, it's the Ryzen VDS. Don't get me wrong it's still very cheap for what you get, service has been better than expected for the price overall. I'm not complaining it was just to point out there seemed to be an issue last night, in case it was relevant to the OP.

I can say that my 6$/year BF VPS [NL, tunnel from Hetzner] is taking part in April Fools' Day ;')
    https://i.imgur.com/AkL0euT.png
But this seems like tunnel/machine tunnel issue as the IPv4 for node from DE/Hetzner is 100% uptime :P
